I just don't understand how in europe they can be in favour of exposing plants to high levels of radiation or mutagens (carcinogens) to produce random mutations but not like the precise insertion of specific KNOWN genes to get a GE plant. I don't see how the first is 'acceptable' and the second is wrong...
Maybe i am seeing this wrong?

I am currently working on GE apples in summerland BC, we are creating strains of apples that have 'silenced' polyphenol oxidase (enzyme that causes browning when apple is cut) One day we hope to release a strain of apple that can be cut and placed in bags much the way baby carrots are sold. Futur plans also include producing a non-browning bt (kill off pests) strain to assist the growers. I hope i haven't given away too many company secrets ; )

k, i don't quite know if i understand this hologram thingy. Is it just a sticker that the consumer can look at and tell if it is fake, or is it detected by the DVD player and that tells the player whether or not to play the disk?
if it is one not the other and the other hasn't been invented and it is a good idea, then it's mine and i 0wN it...
I am currently working on a similar project in my lab.
our focus is quite the opposite though, we are investigating a protein that inhibits apoptosis. This protein is the Mcl-1 protein and shows a huge future in upcoming treatments such as the ones listed in the article.
