As long you don't mind pushing your fellow hacker off it every now and then, to correct syntax or style, just plain stop and think, or because your fingers are getting itchy - it works well.
another dotcom problem is the technical expertise of the employees of some companies. they are, frankly, below average in technical ability or understanding, have no wish to extend their limited knowledge, and always looking for a fast buck.
i do agree with the post, and i think sites that encounter these financial difficulties after 'organic' growth are paying the penalty for all the failed, get rich quick, bad ideas that went before them.
ps my use of 'average' is in a different context to that used in the parent...
does your reasoning extend to judging the intellectual capabilities of a person based on their color, race, creed, sex, or maybe something more important, like their haircut?
i wouldn't want the "Chosen People", aka the Lost Tribe of Redmond, to feel undermined and disallusioned about it.

probably learnt it from a book with 'PERL' written in 6 inch high gold lettering on the front cover and a promise to be a great programmer 'in hours!'
