It appears they are banning by IP address. I tried creating two brand new accounts this morning -- both were instantly banned. Despite the fact that on this computer, I don't have any metallica songs.
I'm thinking of filling out their little "hey! I didn't do it!" form with one of the new user ids I tried... but the words "consent to being sued by metallica" sort of concern me.
...seems to be stuck at 8:50. Don't know if it's y2k or not, but seems likely, hmm? Seeing as the main office is most likely in Ontario -- 3 hours ahead...
Oh well. I'm going to send taunting emails to them.:)
Two of my best friends met their now-spouses online... and both are expecting their first children early next year!
Me, I met my sweetie because of the internet, although not on it -- he was the sysadmin of the ISP that I did tech support at... ah, love at first "hey, this guys mailbox is fscked... can you fix it?"
We had a bit of a bad experience with register.com... my fiance has a thing for 2 letter domain names, and wanted xx.tc, which he could get through register.com. So, he reg'ed it, I used my credit card to pay for it, and all was well.
Or so we thought. A few days later, the DNS has reverted from us to another company in texas... register.com was unable to help us, and finally we contacted the people in Texas, and found that they had registered xx.tc two days before we did.
After finally convincing register.com of this fact, they refunded my credit card... but due to lousy exchange rates, (it's a canadian card) I ended up getting gypped nearly $1. Pah.
Despite having lots of issues with NSI... it's preferable than actually losing money, no matter how small, for someone elses screwup.
Cable *is* getting opened up, slowly but surely. I work at an ISP in Victoria, BC that has cable for businesses. Otherwise, we're limited to phone lines, but Shaw, our local cable company, does *not* have the monopoly.
Unfortunetly, it's aimed at businesses right now, and is therefore three times the price of a normal cable connection.
