I paid about seventy bucks for the Professional Version and couldn't get it to work. I think that gives me the right to complain.
When I upgraded to RH 7.0, I got nothing but problems. I have pretty good hardware, too:
Athlon 700
256 MB RAM
SoundBlaster Sound Card
ATI 3D Rage Pro
Here was my criteria: Since I didn't have any hardware that was NOT supported by previous versions of Red Hat, I wanted to get at least one installation working without having to fix anything. Red Hat failed miserably.
Both the Gnome Dialer and Kppp would not connect-- as far as I could tell, there was some sort of bug in the ppp script.
StarOffice, even the version that came with RH 7.0, would not recognize any Java Runtime Environment I installed.
At least 4 Gnome programs crashed on a regular basis and several KDE programs.
All these problem were reproduceable even when I installed "everything".
The way I figure it, when someone spends money on a distro, one should be able to get a working installation with some sort of productivity software (Siag or StarOffice) right out of the box. And Guess what? Several of your competitors did just that on my machine. It took me 30 Minutes to get that with SuSE 7.0. I couldn't get it with Red Hat 7.0 in over a week!
I therefore have broken every single RedHat CD in my possesion and will be mailing them back to RedHat. If they don't refund my money, at least they won't be able to steal anyone elses...
