Move! on What Do You Do To Relieve Lower Back Pain? · · Score: 1Chiropractors and physiotherapists are fantastic coaches, but it's all up to you. Some helpful moves to consider for your back from my coaches:
- Get up for water every hour - that'll get you your 8-11 glasses a day too
- Stand up to take your calls and pace
- Stretch your neck and shoulders right at your desk when pondering a problem (better yet, walk outside) - don't just sit there staring at your screen
- Don't just do abs, go deep - work on your deep abs for stability (this is achieved by a tensing motion held for 10 seconds - feels like you're resisting the urge to go)
- Get a backpack to carry your laptop (Lowepro has a good one that's not completely unbusinesslike)
- Adjust your bicycle handlebars to be as high as possible so you're not crouched over as much when you're riding to work
- Make sure your cubicle is ergonomically sound (top of screen just slightly below eye level, knees and hips at 90 degree angles, feet flat on the ground, wrists straight, forearms slightly tilted downwards towards keyboard, mouse close to body, back straight, head back)
- Don't do the quasimoto when you're talking on the phone! Get a headset instead.
