  1. Linux is ready for me on Red Hat's CEO Suggests Windows For Home Users · · Score: 2, Insightful

    Yeah,
I am sure no one will read this but I am gonna bother to post it anyway. I am sick and tired of all this neediness crap, .. this craving for acceptance ... this need of approval. Screw Red Hat they aren't putting bread on my table heck they have arbitrarily changed the rules (with little or no explanation) with every piddly little release of their, oh so wonderful distribution. I won't bore you with the details of which was the first version of their software I started with. RH 8.0 was dummed down crap and that is when I stopped using it. I have actually migrated away from windows based computing and have found Linux to be the bomb! Red Hat does not equal Linux.... They think they can get away with hand holding l33t MSCE convert sys admins and bleeding em dry swell for them. They think they can just ride IBM's coat tails, good for them. I don't care what Linux is and isn't ready for I just know, I use it, I like it, and its ready for me. I am not the least bit affected nor does my self esteem suffer if you or them or they or whoever or whatever isn't ready for it. This thread is so tired......

I having been in the Army, for one am glad that linux has been chosen. Not that I will ever have to face combat, but it just would be to cruel to have these guys see the "blue screen of death" just before they actually die from a software memory leak or some other problem. Just as soon as it happened it would also make referring to the blue screen a whole lot less funny.

"microsoft" well, call them and ask for bill as I am sure he cares more about your windows problem than I do.

  6. short trial are no excuse for laziness on What Turns You Off About Evaluation Software? · · Score: 1

What kills me about so many software sites is that the software that they are trying to promote is so poorly explained. I may get it in my head that I want to try something that might make me some money. Oh, but that is another rant "software should be worth more than it costs". Don't assume that because everyone at your company knows what your product is good for. And 30 days make the impossible assumption that I want to stop and dedicate my energies to your product right NOW. If I need something I am going to buy it outright. If I am trialing something that means that I don't need it but, I might want it. So give me some time to figure out how to use it and deploy it. Short evaluations mean that while I am looking at a several hour download I have to contemplate whether or not I really want to dedicate the time it is going to take to figure out its immediate usefullness. Then the phone rings and I realize I dont have time for this and move on.

I realize that this is an old thread and this may never be read. I worked in that group. I can assure you it is headed by an individual that has started many things and never finished them. Your assessment is valid. These cats are greed driven. Does that mean that its pig in a poke? maybe. maybe not. I can tell you this though its present chain of command is bogus. Maybe they will find the talent to do what they say. They do have some very successful projects. They also have some very deep pockets. Their gear would make landover jealous. I for one hope this one is a go. I will tell you this they seem to have a war chest and are aware that this is not a game of short term paybacks. Also this is a privately held group. I wouldn't bet on it going public.

I agree with the anonymous coward. I took the time to some of the replies and the responses seem to be ah shut up and don't wine. Well first of all this project is supposed to be funded by a publically held company. It has responsibilites. Why would I consider buying a piece of hardware from a company that's open source effort is percieved to be half-hearted and crap? It is no wonder that the e./linux/.open yada tech stocks are in the toilet. You people gripe about microsoft and then cry foul when that critical finger is pointed back at you. VA blah blah blah is supposed to be in the BIG TIME with their stock being traded and all that yet, the only thing they can do is acquire the sites that have traditionally been the voice of the people they are marketing to? Sounds a lot like some one elses tactics to me. I have found slash dot to be cliqie and biased and if whoever or whomever isn't on the "list" then ./ignore ./flame ./forget. Now that the thing has funding it is even more free to ./burn ./reject anything that it finds disagreeable. This whole COMMERCIAL Linu$ thing has become a cult of personalities. I will continue to read /. , however it seems to have over the past few months to become more and more a tool for the bra$$ and less a place of information. The funny thing is that the guy who started went out and got a real job. Seems to me thats what a lot of you need to do before your heads explode!

users are stupid what a concept. I personally have never met a stupid user. However to design a system that is so deceptively "easy to use" that everyone , is now an expert and absolve the producer of any product liabity is just plain nonsense. It would be like putting a button in the dashboard of a car, mislabeling it as a dome light and having its function to be to blow the motor. Then coming out and saying well its your own fault you shouldn't have pressed it you are stupid.

Most folks just read the conclusion any way. Even if it is completely erroneous. Hey the government has done it for decades
