  1. Maybe not electronic, but high tech for sure... on Vehicles of Tomorrow? · · Score: 2, Informative
The people at the material engineering department at the University of Leuven (KULEUVEN) built a carbon-fibre car. Ultra light! Ofcourse, they have been around in Formula One cars, but the novelty here is that they actually developed techniques to do it cheaply! To prove it, they built the chassis of a real Volkswagen Lupo in carbon-fibre. Weighs around 25kg! The advantages here are:
    • Safety: carbon fibre is super strong! (Formula one, remember)
    • Environment: lighter means less fuel consumption, ...
    • Durability: no corrosion or metal fatigue.
Check out the article. (dutch, use babelfish ;-))

I don't think saying that the X800 has support for subsurface scatter is exactly justified. There are different ways to implement subsurface scattering phenomena (and they're all approximations).

I think it's more fair to say that the new hardware supports new and efficient ways for specific implementations...

I came back from christmas break in Belgium yesterday. I got printed in Atlanta. I was pleasantly surprised that the process went pretty smooth. Smoother than I had expected...

but they had to carry in the vaseline in my case. Apparently, my fingers don't leave good fingerprints.. a good (?) thing to know if you don't want to bother with gloves when killing someone ;-)

Anyway, it took about 2 minutes in my case, instead of the normal 20 seconds. The positive side is though, because the customs officer was distracted by the malfunctioning, he forgot to ask me about stuff I was importing. I successfully smuggled in 5 bottles of wine and about 3 kilo's of Belgian chocolate ;-)

I don't think people have to know *what* really goes on in the human brain (in terms of biological processes).

A major line of thinking in AI research, is not to try to 'mimic' the *way* the human brain works, but instead to focus on realizing the same functionality, ie. giving machines/computers 'intelligence' or the ability of 'learning by example or from experience'. This includes the ablity to handle unseen/unknown situations, inferred from seen examples...
