WDM stands for "Windows Driver Model". It is the structure and methodalogy that a driver writter follows. Win2k had support for WDM, WinXp has support for WDM, Win98SE has support for WDM and WinMe has support for WDM. Now the WDM interface you are speaking about is that in Win2k there was no support for WDM drivers for video cards. That added that functionality into WinXP so there would be parity between Win9x and WinXP. The WDM drivers for you video card provides access to the extra functionality on your card beyond just displaying images at various resolutions and what not. For example the tuner on the ATI All-in-Wonder series requires a WDM driver for it to work.
