You are really ignorant of the BSD license my friend. Once software is realeased under the BSDL it will always be free. If someone fiddles with it a keeps the code to themselves, that's fine. But, the users will be able to continue to use it.
TCP/IP is released under the BSDL and anyone can make a reference implementation based on the original release of the code. Apache isn't going to up and go proprietary either. There will always be free Apache. It will never go away.
Just because a piece of software is released under the BSDL, that doesn't mean that someone can somehow just take control of it and restrict users from it.
