  1. Association for Progressive Computing on Volunteer Work Abroad? · · Score: 1
I don't think anyone has yet mentioned the Association for Progressive Computing (http://www.apc.org), which might be exactly what you're looking for. They have member chapters in countries all over the world, working in many different languages and on many different kinds of projects, all providing technical and logistic support for NGO's. Some projects you can even help with remotely. Write software to support small shortwave radio stations in Latin America, or train people in Linux system administration, or just repair donated equipment so something *like* Casa Alianza can keep their offices running and do things like accept donations and communicate with the outside world.

I worked with the Mexican chapter, LaNeta (http://laneta.apc.org) and they are doing some great work and I can highly recommend the experience.

Good luck and keep looking! The kind of help you can provide is much needed, you just have to find the right place.
