I could have done that. And they could have just bypassed it at the jumper. Had it only been the two-bit hack, IT people we had, I would have just continued to fuck with them. But it was a manager. Besides, I had two running machines, that they knew about. The main problem was the IT infrastructure had changed. We were still using IBM's old token ring network, even after IBM had abandoned it. They finally threw the switch and kicked us off, forcing us to switch to a yet tested ethernet. The need to access my workstation was to reimage it to work on the new corperate network which uses active directory. They knew less about setting it up on a linux machine than I do, which ain't much. Funny thing is, the machine I've been using since still logs in to the local machine, haha. But the main reason was the apps we use are Windows only, ex EXceed. I had had a manager in cahoots ask about a linux based interface. They didn't want to say yes or no. They wanted to know why he was asking in the first place. Turns out there was one, but it wasn't as 'mature' as the Windows GUI, which sucks in my opinion. Even when I was running a linux machine, I still needed access to Windows since the Java GUI for SAP doesn't support, or didn't at the time, the ability to download raw data to text files or spreadsheets, which I specifically needed. To be honest, my foray into the world of workplace linux was just a self educating, time killer. It would be impracticle for me to do it now, even with as much time as I have. Shhh, don't tell management.
Why does the Related Links area list Review Liunux Products when I can't seem to find the misspelling on the page? Was this an error fixed before posting?
My opinion is that it would be a little more tale-tell of who's visiting their site. Granted the intention is to indicate which is the more popular Linux distro. But still, it might show how many wannabees like me there are. Actually, I had SuSE and RH running here at work for a while. But the local IT manager got pretty pissed when he couldn't log into my machine as administrator. They reimaged my machine shortly thereafter.:(
You get rejected for health cover because you have a gene giving you a predisposition to cancer.
I don't have health cover, but what does this have to do with the government? You don't think the govt. is going to drop medicare coverage for people predisposed to cancer, do you?
By the way, what the health insurance company is more likely to do is exempt cancer from your coverage, unless of course you're willing to pay specifically for that coverage. I don't see this as a bad thing. If you are predisposed to cancer, then you should pay more for health insurance covering cancer treatment.
Your amount insurace coverage or lack there of does nothing for your argument. It's at best anecdotal. Do I think the government will drop coverage of people predisposed to cancer? No. What I do think is that they will eventually be persuaded into selling the database to insurance companies which will. And incase you misunderstand the idea behind health insurance, the idea is to spread the risk. As a relatively healthy, 29 year old, non-smoking, white male, my risk to my insurance company is pretty low. While many of my aged coworkers who's health is declining present more of a loss. The idea is that when I eventually shift into their shoes, there will be enough people like I formerly was to offset the difference. I typically agree that insurance is a scam. But the alternative is universal healthcare. In which case, the government will deny coverage for predisposed illness.
On the contrary. I agree with what you are saying. I undersatnd that lawyers like to muddle statistical analysis into carved-in-stone fact, especially to the less informed jury. My statements were more along the lines of presenting another idea into the mix, not taking one particular side over the other. Speaking as someone who's fingerprints are on file with the FBI, SBI, CCBI and no less than two local counties, I am more concerned with the abuse of the intended system, not the arbitrary collection of data. Let's face it, fingerprints are not as useful to non-law enforcement entities since their actual use and the regulation there of is limited. DNA on the other hand presents a whole other can of worms as cited by many of the other posts. Do I think DNA evidence should be used to convict or vindicate? Yes. Do I think long term collection of honest citizens should be default policy? No. Do I worry someone will eventually sell the data 'for our own good'? Yes.
Because they make a lot of unnecessary work for others. In my specific case, there is plenty of other work to do that gets ignored because it's usually something they don't want to do. Or as it's been expressed to me, something they are above. Also, it's the improvement of processes that allow us to take on new business and compete in the market. Our company is notorious for closing down plants if they are unprofitable or don't make a sufficient profit. Breaking even is not an option. I know this is a little above the heads of rank and file workers. But that is the reality of business. I could go on...
Some of the best ideas do come from the floor. But when the lot you work with's main concern is going on break and not the quality of work, it's easy to see why an engineer or manager would so readily ignor any suggestion. Management at my company has implemented a model to guage productivity. Rarely do I ever hear of suggestions to improve or speed up a process by those actually doing the job. They purposly take their time and half ass their work. Their first level managers specifically work them towards the model. Which means the model is severely inaccurate. Even though I work on the floor, I have a low opinion of these people and would likely ignor them myself.
Those black boxes are the reason that while I was relatively good at math, I sucked at trig, which screwed me when I got to calculus. I had always thought that when learning math, I could follow the steps to a solution which lead to an understanding as to why it worked. Black boxes, as you described it, do not do this.
Flood me with links? Of what, sausage? Yet again another blame-bush liberal is too busy to resort to documented facts and would prefer to rely on one liners to get their message across. You are an ineffective troll.
It's kinda funny 'cause if you think about it, the cities the terrorists would hit are the ones that mostly voted against GWB. They'd be doing him a favor in reducing the number of liberal voters and giving him yet another reason to continue on with his agenda.
You mean GWB was at the controls of the national weather machine when the hurricane hit New Orleans? Maybe you mean the legislation he signed to go ahead and get 'the big one' out of the way. Perhaps he wanted to do his oil buddies and Halburton a favor and cause a crisis.

Then this article may do a lot to skew the results for Ubuntu.
I've already clicked on it once.
Are you insinuating sharks are stupid?
Or only sharks that would carry lasers in the first place?
And what of the ill tempered seabass?

Fingerprints have never been proven to be unique to every human. It's just assumed that they are. DNA, short of twins, IS unique to every human.

Shouldn't this be in the other article about patents?
Was that before or after they started the slave trade?
I'm sorry. That was a low blow.
Then expect us to make up the difference in the shorter ammount of time we are at work.
You forgot the part where they bump into a Ford, flip over and burst into flames.
Or more specifically, you're getting 'the service' by GM.

Everybody knows the WMD's went to Syria to hide.

Unless you're going up against nihilists, there are always targets. It's just a matter of how bold/crazy you are.
The guy's website, badscience.net mentions whale farts and butt candles.
From the gist of the other comments, I gather laptops aren't actually excluded. Regardless, I hate flash and choose not to use it.
