  1. U of A and KSU in NE Ohio on Web Censorship on the University Campus? · · Score: 0

I attended The University of Akron and Kent State University both in north east Ohio. Neither of these schools had any sort of content blocking. They did however block IRC and p2p applications.

  2. what an elitist on The 360 Is Too Cheap? · · Score: 0, Redundant

"The beginning of a console generation has typically been for those with deep pockets..."

Does this man realize how much of a bourgeois elitist he sounds like? "Been for those with deep pockets" as opposed to those who do not, who should not be allowed to have modern forms of entertainment. They should just be allowed to have their poverty and that should be enough for them right?

    >> VB was never a beginner language

    VB stands for Visual BASIC.

    BASIC stands for [B]eginners [A]ll-purpose [S]ymbolic [I]nstruction [C]ode.

i am not arguing whether vb is for beginners or not but the name implies that it is.

    >that all that their Visual Basic programmers do is to write meaningless little
    >programs that noone ever uses.

am i the only who sees the absurdity in this generalization? the sensible person would realize that your "lead computer people"'s problem is not in the language but in the people they are hiring and more importantly the management of these people.

    >He seemed to think that hiring Visual Basic programmers was a complete waste
    >of money.

again i am not exactly sure how you draw this generalization.

Just because you "can and have run DNS, Samba, Apache, Netatalk, MySQL and others on the same machine" doesn't mean Linux is any better. You can do the same with a Windows box. There are two of them doing so in our data center now. What it does mean is that you need to rethink your network design if you plan to run anything large. In your scenario if someone compromises your webserver they have everything. Windows or Linux, all of it would be going down if just one resource was comprimised.
