Quite amusing. Yes, I hate Microsoft just as much as you do. Utterly loath and detest those despicable bastards.

probably not. I use certain accounts for certain things. And this still isn't very descriptive. This is just general internet info. Again, nothing to incriminate, nothing to ID me. And again, this is my whole point, should all info on an individual be in ONE place for everyone to easily access, that would be frightening. Having it all broken up and all over the place makes me comfortable since that data (though parsed and resold), usually doesn't coordinate with all the other databases that hold related information to me.

Well when you are the underdog in a market (like search), doesn't it make more sense to pander to the largest audience possible??? By deliberately ignoring a 20% of the market, they are causing those people to default to Google leaving them to fight over the remaining 80% with the dominant search company who is going to get that remaining 20% because they CAN! First rule of business in any market is reach the largest audience possible and when there is already a dominant company in the market, to be able to do something better. This is neither better nor does it reach the largest audience possible. Microsoft just shot itself in the foot being a bit too arrogant again.

Most of the time... yes. They may mine what they can but it's snippets which may or may not be related to what some other manufacturer may need. Speaking as someone who has had to do that kind of thing, data gts scrubbed and what is purchased is not the entire set of data but a specific view which may or may not have accurate info or may be outdated and no longer current. So regardless of them trading, NO company sells theirs ENTIRE database of info to their competitors and nobody has completely current and accurate info on all persons in their DB.

My mom ever so recently was told to upgrade by her ISP; in fact they told her to buy a whole new computer or else they wouldn't support her. After I screamed at them for this kind of attitude and for advising someone who is ignorant of such matters that they would need a whole new computer, I went out and bought her a new system and installed Ubuntu on it. Now her scanner, printer, digital camera that my brother bought her and speakers all work great. She never worries about viruses and LOVES firefox. It took her awhile to get used to tabs but now that she is, she wouldn't switch back to IE even if you paid her to move to Windows. I don't think it's unreasonable to think that at least 10% of these outdated systems may eventually switch. If they get fed up enough with things, they will. And I'm speaking as someone who has refused to upgrade my Win2k machine because it still works just fine for me including for playing games; I don;t have reason to upgrade but do want to use a decent browser.
