why not get a "heavyweight" gfx card like the new Nvidia Quadro FX 1/2000 card. It will provide you with the necessary throuput to handle some serious 3D work, movie editing and give you a year or so of obsolescency protection.
RPMs are not the be-all and end-all of hard drive performance. I think hard drive's pedigree (which family it comes from) has a much greater bearing. With recent advances in technology, hard drive manufacturers have been able to pack more data per hard drive platter that than they could before. This has resulted in the increasing hard drive capacities that we are seeing (320GB etc). Now, 320GB on four platters is 80GB/platter. This usually remains that same across a pedigree.
This means that the read/write head of a a 5400rpm drive (from a pedigree) that packs 80GB/platter will theoretically be able to transfer more data than a 7200rpm drive that packs 40GB/platter. This is because for each rotation, the former (5400/80) flys over more data than the latter (7200/40).
"There are US companies selling Japanese gadgets not available in the US to local customers."
Pardon my ignorance, but he says companies...I only know of one: dynamism.com (Incidentally, if I'm not mistaken they can send laptops etc from anywhere in the world to anywhere else, check their site for details.)
Does anyone know any others?
"we had 15 people last week in a bar, woot, but only 2 player games with crossovers because they wouldn't let us plug in a hub"
OK, I agree multiplayer games are **way cool** and I play them every chance I get...but in a bar???
WTF???
Tell me I'm not the only one who finds this odd...offensive even.
When cleaning LCD panels, including laptop displays, be very careful. The plastic coating on the front of the display is semi porous, so fluid can run down the front of the display and short out some of the edge transistors, blowing out some of the display elements. Pre-moistened towelettes are the best way to go, but if you prefer a spray on cleaner, use it very sparingly.
LCD Cleaning Tips
I think best results are achieved by wiping the screen with an absorbent cotton/flannel cloth dipped into a very dilute soap solution and squeezed until it is moist. Also instead of trying to scrub any dirt build up try rubbing gently in a circular motion. Once done you should wipe any droplets of water off the panel or risk messing it up.
Yeah that's right, Monitor Hoods! [google.com]
I know they lok a little goofy but after having the please of using a LaCie monitor with one of these things a while back during an unexpected outdoor coding session, I swear by them.
PS: no affiliation to LaCie or any monitor hood company, honest
Pardon my skeptism, but I think that as of right now a port of NetBSD in a dual ppc system is unnecessary. Why would anyone in their right mind want a dual ppc NetBSD system when Apple already markets/supports and extends the leading OS for the platform: OSX?
According to this CNET page [cnet.com] Creative might also come out with a 40GB version with 16MB of on board DRAM.
With the File Manager & PlayCenter software bundle this should make for an interesting iPod alternative...wouldn't you say?
who have suffered financially due to the scam. However shooting a (Nigerian) diplomat is definitely not going to help things...

Or better yet get one of these babies!

Maybe I completely misunderstand the question, and pardon me if I do, but:
Just install any widely supported NIC along with a number of open source Network Analysis & Diagnosis Tools and your good to go.
The laptop will afford you a lot more flexibilty than a built-for-the-purpose tool.
Who needs storage?
Somebody wake me up when Memory is $1/Gig. now there's something to cause a hooplah over.
**rolls over and falls asleep again**

My question is...why the penis?
Aren't there a whole number of organs they could have "experimented" with? What of livers, hearts even limbs?
