I think there is a difference between computer scientists and scientists that use computers.

One of the few remnants of communist Russia

Mir: Rest in Pieces

In reading some articles and watching some of the news stories about MIR on TV it's become apparent that the Russians are looking upon this event as a solemn moment. With this being one of the few remnants of communist Russia, they view it as the end of the successful Russia, the Russia which rivaled the United States in it's space program. Being as I'm not Russian, I'm curious to see if there are any Russian slashdot readers that can confirm or shed some light on the mood in Russia. Part of me can see the logic behind what the media is saying but part of me sees some sensationalism as well.
This is a very half-assed attempt at a filtering system on Napster's part. A simple search for Metallica still yields plenty of unmodified( no Met4llica's or Meta11ica's) results. Any novice programmer could implement a search algorithm to pick out these strings.
I've had a serious infatuation with SOAP since Microsoft started talking about their.NET framework. With Ximian/Helix Code releasing SOUP I think it's going to blosson into love.
I hope the releasing of genetically engineered "beings", whether they are plants or animals, doesn't become a habit. I can just see some disease of epidemic proportions growing out of this. "Genetically engineered monkey accidently injected with mega-virus and released into the wild."
or was it '50s? Whatever.

I don't know, whenever I think of the testing of experimental aircraft I picture Chuck Yager attempting to reach supersonic speeds back in the '40s.

"Using a booster rocket, the prototype will be accelerated to mach 5, at which point" ...it's pilot will be ripped to shreds.

and they'll discover it a year and a half later only to say that they'll make no attempt to bring it home.

Watch out...they'll moderate you down for it too.

Unfortunately Jar Jar is in, it's already been confirmed by Lucas a dozen and a half times.

What kind of benifits do clockless chips present?

People don't actually watch it, they just forget to turn their TV's off after Survivor.

You have to admit, watching Boies make Gates squirm in those deposition tapes is some classic footage!
