  1. Re:How IBM almost died on Slashback: NIC, Dastar, Defects · · Score: 1

You are forgetting the funniest part!

The third party company (CORE) that sold _reliable_ replacement drives for the AT gladly took your dead drive.

They recycled them all by creating an artifical reef of dead IBM hard drives off the coast of Boca Raton Florida!

(Boca Raton is where IBM's PC HQ was. :-)

  2. 90 Minute Delay? What about outputs? on TiVo to support HDTV by "Year-End" · · Score: 5, Interesting

More like -- is it going to support the 90 minute delay
    proposal before the FCC?

I.E. Some content can only be viewed no later than 90 minutes after it was recorded, or
    not at all.

Is it going to have DVI or Firewire connectors with forced-down low-res on the firewire
    is another important one.

And in other news buggy whip manufacturers predict a strong comeback in
    2003.

Of course adworld hates the Tivo, it is the best way to circumvent their revenue model.

There are probably less Bentley automobiles and Lear Jets than outhouses too... is anyone
    predicting their imminent doom?

Tivos are a luxury item that threaten the status quo, what's funny is adworld feels the need to
denounce them now when market penetration is so
light... methinks they doth protest too much.

They insist on having the check-digits from your credit card number, but American Express doesn't issue check-digits for Private Payments numbers.

Perhaps they could add paypal for payments, since I don't give web retailers anything but one use credit card numbers, ever.
