While it is a shame that Microsoft has such a hugevoice in the market, I really have to disagree with your statement.

    >The current Palm OS can't really do the type of things that, thanks to
    >Microsoft et. al, everyone thinks a handheld device needs to do.

This is what people actually want from their handheld. It's perfectly natural for a person not to want to carry his Rio, Palm, and Gameboy Advance to work/school. Why on earth wouldn't he demand integration, and why on earth wouldn't the makers of PDAs make such a device?

MS has very little to do with that.

When Be's assets were sold, that money goes to the creditors and the stock holders. They're probably screwed, but maybe not too bad.

You would have the rights to what you published 20 years ago. It's just that I would too, and so would other content producers. I don't feel that 20 years is long enough, but putting it into the public domain during the life of the creator doesn't seem like a problem. It's more important to aid the creation of derivative works.

Actually, it's been my experience that most college students don't keep tape decks. It's a kinda silly thing to still have around, if you're too young to have a huge tape collection.

That's not strictly true. You can tell ICQ not to create icons on either the desktop or the first layer of the start menu, or even a program group during installation. Other advertisements and such are no more intrusive than they were in earlier versions of ICQ. Compared with AIM, MSN IM, et al, I would still describe ICQ as being little effected by the AOL buyout of Mirabilis.

You're apparently missing that the aggregate would be used for development on Mars and Luna.

The article reads: "an important resource on both the Moon and Mars", not "from both the Moon and Mars"

I don't know about you, but the second they build the first settlement, I'm findin' me nineteen men and twenty women, renaming my palm pilot's build of Eliza Mike, and hopping on the first ship up.
