    I'm a little bit confused. Every bad video file that I've ever seen or downloaded turned out to be pr0n instead of the music video or tv episode I was trying to get.

    I sincerly doubt that actions by RIAA and the MPAA influenced the new design anywhere near so much as the kids w/their misnamed pr0n and broken files.

    I was in Singapore over the summer and purchased the two-disk box set w/the darker cover. It was everywhere, even in the more reputable of shops.

    It is legitimate and easily found in that market
    It does feature English subtitles, but I didn't bother to look if it has the sound.

    The real question is, will the dubbing be different between the Disney release and the others, if that's what you're into. Mononoke really was a specially thing, in that respect.

    The WSJ did have a fairly pro-linux article about companies adopting linux at POS and in desktop applications. Wasn't that great an article, but it was ok.
    It's in last Thursday's paper.

    Quite a number of video card manufacturers produce at least binary support for their devices. Matrox, NVidia, 3dfx, and ATI all play a leading, or at least active, roll in their driver development.

    Matrox especially stands out, offering their alternative XFree86 binaries and wonderful configuration tool to get dualhead displays working (powerdesk)

    Did you even bother to read the article?

    The fellow said he pays 20 or 40 dollars per month, for an average savings of $40 on his monthly telephone bill. If one assumes he uses the 500 minute/month option, he's saving $20/month. If not, then he's still breaking even.

    Personally, I'd kill to have this, assuming it also covers international calling. My gf and I are spending nearly $80/month on calls back and forth from .sg.

    It is practical, it is useful.

    This could also be really useful in a corporate environment too. Telecommuters that have to be reimbursed for their phone expenses could save a bundle with a tool like this or a by just buying the hardware on both ends.

    Linux, Unix, why bother to differentiate?

    I don't have a link, but last summer in the Linux Journal, Dennis Ritchie himself called Linux the latest iteration of Unix. It's really just petty splitting hairs to whine about Linux not being based on a true-unix kernel.

    I'm getting really tired of the crappy quality of my $50 WinTV card. I'd love to be able to have a cron job grab my favorite programs for me, but I can't seem to decide which card I should get. The Hauppage card is terribly inadequate.

    Which would be the better card to use in linux?
    The Matrox Marvel G450, the Radeon 7500DV, or some tv-only card w/tuner?

    Why can't you show the irrelevance of life in film? I seem to remember Seinfeld and such doing it quite well.

    When I read this article, I started seeing pictures of a confused, out of place individual at home. I saw a detached, indifferent character at war. I heard the clones explaining the futility of the whole earlier war.

    I personally feel and have always felt that Haldeman will translate wonderfully into film.

    While /. may or may not approve of the film, I think it'll be most interesting to see what everyone else thinks of their adaptation of the Forever War. I can't think of ANYTHING to hit the airwaves that deals with homosexuality in such a manner, and it's sure to raise more than a few eyebrows.

    Hope they can pull it off without watering it down.

    Wouldn't the hosting problem be fairly minimal if they distributed the key generation/distribution/whatever using peer2peer tech? It's not as though it doesn't have the infrastructure there yet. People have already been willing to give up their cpu time, and I suspect that 10-25% would be more than willing to give up a small chunk of their bandwidth as well.

    Pretending indiference to the media would be counter-productive.

    If we didn't care about/care for what the media offered us, their paranoia and excessive controls would be irrelevant.

    If we stop using their product, why would they care if we bitch and whine about the controls? And why would Congress?

    There's no way that just the readers of /. can put large enough force against the govt and Hollywood through boycotting or ignoring these companies rather than continuing to buy the stuff and cry at the top of our lungs.

    I've never heard of the Sundance Channel, I can't get to film festivals or linux conferences, but I'd still like to see it.

    Did the filmmakers take Stallman's rantings to heart and distribute the film under a free liscence? Can a copy be obtained online?

    Lynx doesn't like your ads. It spews out about 3 lines of text, presumably the picture's URL, but nothing relevant at all. It doesn't make sense. Where'd the text-labels go? Oh, and when you implement them again, please make sure they're easily differentiated from the articles.

    There was a Columbine mod for Half-Life. Wouldn't be hard to redo the map to your school/office, the models to your students/peers/bosses.

    Just be careful, and don't make it public. Heck of an uproar was raised over the first one, and it's all but impossible to find now.

    (for good reason, imho. these things can be taken too far)

    I'm afraid I don't understand one thing about your post.

    If you wear clothes without holes and take time out for showers, doesn't that make it appear as though you spend more than 20 minutes a day away from your pc to those who don't keep shower-boxen?

    Now, I don't mean to be trolling. I'm asking, just to what extent does one's interest/dedication to what he's working on outside of work/class mean to an interviewer/hirer?

    I've had the same issues from mandrake 7.1 on, but I figured out what was wrong.

    In every new kernel I'd compile, for some inexplicable reason, I would enable ACPI and disable APM. Enabling APM BIOS support (under General Setup in the kernel's config)

    This worked just find with 2.4.18-rc3 on my VIA Apollo Pro 133A chipset motherboard.

    All may not be roses, but do you honestly believe that we're no better off because of the corporations? What more than capital and stable economy keeps the African field hospital you mention from doing its job? Education, public health programs, etc, etc can be funded only through taxation or private enterprise. These rely, of course on creation of that capital.

    While I certainly feel for you and your son, it is necessary to remember that, even with all its flaws, western society's focus on entrepeneurship and the creation of wealth is what gives your son any chance, at all.

    You say that the only cure is a patented drug, that you can (not/barely) afford w/o insurance?
    You say that the drugs are completely out of reach for those without insurance?

    I say this:
    The drug would likely not exist without the patent.
    ~20 years from now, that patent will not exist.

    I say this:
    We benefit more than we suffer from corporations and the current structure of our society.
    You may not even have been able to afford insurance if it weren't for your employer's help/government regulation.

    At least be a lil teeny bit grateful that you don't have to go to the African field hospital you mention.
