Heard recently that studios are pursuing watermarking of screeners and other promotional DVD's to at least have a fighting chance at figuring out where these things are coming from.
Would you want a z/OS guy managing disk for a couple of Linux admins running file servers or supporting every enterprise user mapping his/her home directory against the z box? Former for me, please.
Why does it take another admin to run file services? It might be nice to have the windows users talking to the same space through dfs/smb that the real machines use for dfs.
They're great number crunchers, but they don't hold up under any kind of pressure as a web server. We had the z-series with no sites on it run benchmarks and compare to our development box with 20 sites hosted, and the development box (Penguin Computing) kicked its ASS.
You clearly have no idea what you're talking about. Great number crunchers? I can't even imagine what your testing was.
Like running linux on the bare iron / on lpars? That negates a lot of the benefits of z/linux.
Z/Linux isn't a distribution, if that's what you meant. For IBM it's essentially the architecture.
Well, you have a point. I also think you are on to something in a way: there are other solutions capable of running Linux on IBM mainframes then IBM Z/Linux. TurboLinux comes to mind.
mainframes aren't "power" oriented. Pretty much every other solution would slaughter it CPU wise.

I was always under the impression that early 2001 was when the big flash montage became popular/mainstream, which is the tail end of the zero wing phenomenon.
Not that I've used it extensively yet (maybe someone else has) but Ghost 4 Unix (g4u) will do a bit for bit copy just like Ghost for Windows does, difference being that it is freeware and backs up to any ftp server with the appropriate credentials added.
My schwinn will do 20MP/H, just like a porsche does.
As far as having no relation, it doesn't take a rocket scientist to tell that 'ghost 4 unix' is a knockoff of the (now owned by norton) ghost.
No, it's not the same. Sony lost the betamax format because they wouldn't allow other OEMs to make compatible hardware. Too bad, too, because it has better resolution and the tapes are smaller. But Sony has always wanted to be a monopoly like Microsoft, and they're still working on it.
Isn't that largely considered to be urban legend / spin nowadays? At the time the "war" was fought, Beta wasn't offering 2 hour recording time for consumer machines. Two cassettes worth 5% quality or so?
All me and my friends can figure out is that they are trapped inside a matrix within a matrix AND neo went on the EXACT COURSE THE MACHINES WANTED HIM ON! It makes perfect sense when you think about it, which is why it is probably wrong.
I think that occured to alot of people. Some other choices are that only that final "return" was somehow hijacked (as in the first 2 hours the world w/ zion is real, and the last 20 minutes it's a simulatuion, or that the botched EMP counter-attack just coincided w/ neo stepping to the machines. You'd have to blame his "feeling" on his recent mindfuck.
No, you are only required to make the offer (and honor the offer) of people you distributed to.
That's true, but they ARE under obligation to include written note telling about the said CD-R's, and those CD-R's must be sent to ANYONE who asks, not only those people who received the binary.
The reason the comparison is meaningless is not becasue you tend to see low bitrate mpeg4, but because mpeg4 is designed for comparitively lower bitrates.
Of course some of these are mainstream or even popular movies, but are still underappreciated in my mind. Not to mention guilty pleasures like Demolition Man or Conair.

ewww, using a z-series for samba!
:)
DFS on z/OS speaks SMB and lets you share your RFS filesystems! talk about sweet

Disk IO, reliability, workload management and power consumption are also probably relevant in that equation (and on the side of z/linux)
Linux/390 is great for experimental servers, test systems, etc. OTOH - if you have any significant workload, buy a rack-mount PC.

In debian at least, you have to install a package in addition to modutils -- module-init-tools.
"Chinamen" is still not the preferred nomenclature

Most people don't use software like ghost in bit-for-bit mode.
You either paid for it in tuition, surcharges, or sacrifices in curriculum.

Hey, if it's good for the Sleestack it's good enough for us.

Isn't refresh rate essentially a non-issue on LCD's?
The relevant metric is probably response time.
In the same vein, If Looks Could Kill w/ Richard Grieco got written off a little too quickly.
Hudson Hawk had alot more going for it though.
Amen on "They Live".
The rowdy one kicking ass and chewing bubblegum, does it get any better than that?
You rented out my room? Mom to who?!?!
Definitely a money movie. Even a funny line I didn't catch the first few times that i've "liberated".
When Hathaway is in his Den being yelled at by the govt guy for being late, he's upset and yells:
Hathaway: "it's coming, it's coming!"
govt guy: "coming? It's not even breathing heavy!"
The delivery is a little off and it's easy to miss, but good schtick!
Is there a more underappreciated movie than Dirty Work (norm mdconald, artie lange)
Keep a copy of this in your car and unleash upon unsuspecting friends during a slow night. They'll thank you!
Don't ask me how they fucked up "Screwed" w/ norm, chappelle, AND devito.
What movies will your friends hate you for making them watch?
I'm still apologizing for "The Other Sister".
A friend once made me sit through "The Pledge" and I think it's easily the worst movei I've ever seen.
Since Boondock Saints got lots of coverage (I own 3 diff dvd versions) allready in the comments...
Just one of the Guys
Loverboy
The Brainsmasher
Made
12 Monkeys
Adventures of Baron Munchausen
