Aren't they notorious for being largely ineffective but having tremendous pull in all sorts of local government. I've heard alot of thier strong-arm techniques on detractors -- news outlets, school officials.
From the guy claiming that Microsoft was the largest Pyramid scheme ever conceived, and it only profits through clever books w/ regards to stock options.
Wow, it's a miracle that you use dselect but still _like_ the package system.
I find it much simpler to use apt, where a command like:
apt-get install perl
Will fetch and install 'perl', as well as all the packages that it depends on (excluding the ones you have installed allready). There is a console based apt that functions much like dselect as well.
_If_ his numbers were correct, he would still be jumping to conclusions (ot -- Office Space:)).
But it indeed does looke like he arrived at the Redhat number by adding the 'Redhat' figure to the 'aggregate linux' figure (which includes redhat allready).
So with the corrected numbers, would Moody feel that NT is the worst OS? Or were the manufactured bugtraq numbers a convenient way to kick Linux sqaure in the jimmy?
If you want to share MP3's, run a client on Efnet/Dalnet/Undernet...there are established 'scenes' on all of them. It's about as difficult as making toast. FTP site, XDCC bot, hell even one of those horrid polaris-like contraptions.
"There are not many people who know what to do with 10 million lines of code"
And you counter that by providing one (inappropriate) example of someone who can? If you are involved in a project from it's inception, you can make sense of it's '10 million lines of code'. But when it's dropped in your lap all at once, without any previous exposure?
They do have a point...If they were in it simply for the buzz they'd make the source available and not give two damns about how useful you found it.
Well in the case of gnutella, i imagine 'authorities' recieve the 'lawbreakers' request for/metallica/.mp3, then generates a file w/ that name and pushes it to the 'lawbreaker'.
This is different from a case, say of narc@fbi.gov emailing you a link to metallica.mp3
The gnutella example is more like:
<Crackhead> (talking to NARC) Hey man got any Crack? <Cop> Sure. <Crackhead> ty! <Cop> *savage beating/arrest*
I think it makes it difficult to call this entrapment.
How does someone manage to be offended by this? Unless I am horrendously misreading the linked article, excite isn't offering much more than some kind of peering service (Universities do the same thing often, even for commercial entities).
It's not as if @home is routeing packets to CNN at a higher priority than MSNBC, it's simply that if CNN has a 'direct' link to @home then @home subscribers will naturally see better service.
Pretty much every movie in recent memory has been available this way. The files aren't ridiculously large either, on the same order as the ones talked about in the article.
What the hell was The Ladies Man doing on CNN?
He planned to disrupt homecoming, fucking over a good number of senior I imagine. So much for homecoming tradition!
It worked. If he wasn't prepared to get disciplinary action he had no business trying to makeing waves.
If your school has any type of Policy (whether it be network/computing or even academic integrity) you can be pretty severely punished.
This doesn't have a thing to do with the law, so doing things you might consider 'legal' can easily get you censured, expelled, etc.

Stop the penis party!
You write this with a straight face?
Maybe a 25 chromosome grin?

One obvious flaw in your argument:
Without a 3d interface, it would have been all but impossible for Joey to retrieve the Gibson's garbage file.

No GY to integrate w/ my panel?
Where have all the 20 channel 128kbit mp3 stream FM channels been?
Holy shit that show was tight.
Didn't it get cancelled in the middle of a cliffhanger?
W/ an atom bomb about to go off?

Why would Joe User run an IRC server?

And all the mp3's you could ever need...
Looks like the upper(there are 2) 'reply to this' and the fake threads are part of the body of the post.
If you look at the source you can see a bunch of errors made when typing...encoded stuff in the urls etc.
Am i misconfigured, or is DGA support for the mach-64 cards not in place?

Urotsokdoji (I've probably mauled the spelling, never seen it in type) sometimes known as The Overfiend. It's pretty widely available and a real riot.
+1 (Savage Beating)
Than you have a legitimate beef if you own one.
If you don't, Virgin is under no obligation to provide it.
Of course, that all hinges on the depth and quality of research that led you to believe it was "based on some variant of linux".
