Last time I updated windows I don't remember windows update (or microsoft update) updating all the software installed. Same goes for a linux disto, using debian myself if I circumvent the package manager then for that piece of software I just installed won't get automatically updated. Of course it depends on what the computer is used for to do a decent comparison but both have their update issues if you're looking for a simple one button/command method.
I don't know exactly what you mean by "all popular quicktime plugins" but I just installed it (before the story was posted) and it works great for the trailers at apple.com/trailers.
The demo just has the annoying msgs that appear over the movie, they do go away so you can see the full thing but atleast the msgs are semi-entertaining....:)
ah.. my TV has a similar funtion... you push a button and then you can flip around and it'll flip back to the original channel in thirty seconds...
and don't tell anyone but my vcr has a commercial advance button (I think it's actually called that) that fast forwards while you hold it and it stops and rewinds about a second or two when you let go, then it starts playing again... and I won't say anything about saving tv shows with my tv-tuner card...:)
I guess it's just the instant jumping they don't like...:) I've never used TiVo but isn't there a fast forward...?
For those interested here (english ver) is an interesting engine I saw on tv a year or two ago. Unlike the story above they have working protypes, most that I've seen (on the site and tv) are just the engine but they also have tried using it in things (chainsaw for one).
This is what I was thinking, having that (the CD-Digital Audio) symbol means it can be played on devices that conform to the stardards set out by Phillips and Sony in this case.
Then again maybe they were able to get this working with-in the standards for CD-Audio and Mixed mode CDs.
But if not I would say they either have to drop the symbol on the disks or make a new standard (or just extend the current)
Well I don't know if it works the same way but there is temp sensitive automotive paint you can buy now:
