Under Canadian law, it is not an infringement to possess digital locks and liability is limited to actual damages in non-commercial cases.

But this is the important part. If you're ripping something for personal purposes, the most they can possibly sue you for is what they can prove they lost. This means that you aren't going to get ten-thousand dollar fines for ripping your BR of Cars so the kids' fingerprints don't get all over the disc. My lawyer has told me to "just eat" a fairly easy $2500 wrong. That means unless you're a commercial offender (i.e. selling for profit) you're going to be just fine.

And even if you own handbrake + a lot of other ripping tools, that in itself is not a crime and it couldn't be used for getting a warrant.

A few years ago, I was in Seattle for a band trip. On the Sunday morning, a dozen of us went up to Everett to see the Boeing factory.

The first plane ready to get out the door was 787 #1, the FAA smasher, so we got to see it fairly close. We also got to see the Dreamcargo? whatever it's called take off. That's a funny looking plane.

They are very cool planes, and if you're ever in the PNW, I highly recommend heading to Everett and checking out the factory. It's incredible.

That's approx $38k in Canada. (It's currently $1.19/L, I used $1/L) and fuel consumption of 10km/L. (approx 23 mpg) My car has about 80,000 in it and I've had it for 4 years, 20,000 km per year = $2380 in gas a year.

I pay about $1500 a year in electricity, including a 20kW forced-air electric furnace and an electric HW tank. Assuming that the car uses the same power as the furnace (I don't know for sure) it's about $960 a year for the power to run the car. That's a savings of $1420 a year.

A cheap car that would meet my requirements would run approx. $20k to start. The Tesla would be $80, so $60k difference. That would be a 42-year ROI. Li-Ion batteries will last approximately 5 years. Now, the problem with this car, and I hate to say this because it should be obvious, is that it isn't cool-looking. It looks like a plain old sedan. If I am going to spend that much on a car, I want, you know, a bit of a panty-melter.

That's weird though, I'm sure I didn't spend that much on gas, the fuel should only have been about $1500 a year. Was my ex doing a lot of extra driving? Oh...dammitsomuch.

These are not the people that are going to sit down around the breakfast table and discuss their problems rationally over a croissant. They're fucking assholes and they deserve to lose their Earth privileges.

Yes, innocent people are going to die in the resulting inferno. Same as if we went in there with guns a-blazin, kicking in doors and dealing with IEDs. At least the innocent people aren't going to be our guys and girls, are they? I know they're all still humans and the loss of life still sucks. That's how you win wars, by kicking ass and then rebuilding once it's all done.

Now, maybe it would be for the best if we just left the whole lot of those backwards countries (if you don't have universal suffrage, education, and free speech, you're a backwards shithole) to rot and burn themselves out in their own stupidity. There's a good argument for that. The problem is that they are bringing that shit here to the civilized world.

It would be better by far if we could just walk up to these folks and jab `em with a syringe full of cyanide. Really, a lot of US politicians should get the jab too, but baby steps.
