Can you imagine? The only package manager that prompts you for your credit card number when you click "apply". Unless, of course, your optional packages are minesweeper and pinball.:-)
I don't want my OS to be friendly. I want it to be obedient.
I agree, and it reminds me of something that happened a year or so ago. I run Gentoo Linux on my laptop and I'm the only person in my office not running XP (and now a few are running Vista). I like XP ok, but my co-workers find it strange that I stick with Linux. One day I was showing someone a video on my system when the ALSA sound drives hosed. Happed every once in a while in KDE, so I said "Let me fix this first" and I restarted alsasound.
My coworker said "Heh, I thought Linux was perfect."
I replied. "Nope. But let me ask you a question. If your sound drivers died in Windows XP, how would you restart them without rebooting the box?"
He had nothing else to say. I like the flexibility and control with Linux. I want to completely own the systems I use. Just my 2 cents.
Of course admins who are diligent will keep the systems patched. Not sure why we need DHS to stick their collective noses into it, and considering the fact that they have a bad habit of flunking IT security audits, maybe they should spend more time worrying about their own security.
Save $50?? To which MS Product are they referring? MS Office is over $300! XP Pro upgrade is $200. You are saving quite a bit more than $50 with a linux-based alternative.
Fire ants are one reason that the horned lizard, once plentiful in Texas, are now scarce.

Seems to me the point was not about running to Linux as alternative to Vista, but staying with XP.
