    Microsoft claim moon
    Reuters
In a surprise move today, Microsoft has launched a capsule that supposedly contains the source code for all Windows products towards the moon. In reaching the moon, the source can then claim itself an soverign entity, with no governmental or terriestrial ties. Claiming problems with bandwidth, the source only repeats over and over 'I am a thinking entity. You need me for Age of Empires.' People around the world are stunned at this new innovation from Microsoft.

It's expected that the legal and marketing abilities of the probe are highly advanced, enabling it to buy companies remotely and sue people for making parody web pages. Other companies are very interested in buying this technology, but when they show interest are immediately bought by Microsoft.

Bill Gates was unavailable for comment, but Steve Ballmer stated unequivocally 'Microsoft is bigger than the Earth, we're intergalatic now. We're bigger than Jesus. You could never be as 31337 as us.' The statement then degenerated into a series of 'uNF's and 'jajajaja's.

Around 6 months before Q3A came out, I got the unique chance to alpha test Quake 3 Arena in Dallas at id software. I ended up playing with Blue and Redwood, along with Tim Willits and Christian 'Disruptor' Antkow. Oh, and meet most of the rest of the group. And John Cash is the nicest guy in the world!

Because of the limited number of skins at the time, most of us had the choice of the Tim, Xian, and Sarge skin, because that is about the only skins they had. What was scary is that the Tim skin looked nearly EXACTLY like him. And, in my opinion, was the best player amongst the gathered group. Hence, you learned to run away if you saw Tim running towards you. It was very strange to be running around, and run right into someone you recognize from the real world.

However, for a team play game that involved pushing a button to get points, we ended up playing almost all the same skins, so the effect was much stranger to see 3 Xian's running around. `8r)

Anyway, it has been maintained from the begining that id software is able to create photorealistic skins, and that they will provide instruction on how to create your own. There is a PC gamer issue out there discussing that as well.

Two issues here, the time frame and the ability to script it.

I was unable to script this setup because subseven uses a windows based gui. I was unable to find a command line version that did what I needed it to do. Basically, a command line version that would log in, remove the server, and log out would be great, but right now no such tool exists. in theory, I should have then been able to pass it to a for list with all my ip's i knew. Yes, it would have been nice, but cut and paste into the GUI was all I had the time. I've spoken with people at Cert and NetSec and was told that something like this in the works.

The long time was because not all hosts are on at the same time. The bot net seemed mostly international. so at the time that people in Japan are turning their computers on, people in the UK are turning their's off, etc. Hence, there was a constant flow of bots in and out of the channel. By grabbing the ip when they joined, I cut and pasted it to the subseven client program, and then removed the server. It was a REAL pain in the ass because the subseven server only allows ip's, not hostnames. Anyway, after around 8 hours of doing this, I felt that the botnet was permenantly crippled, and left the rest. The guy is getting followed by several people, removing the rest of the clients.

no, it wasn't the most elegant solution, and yes, it sucked. I should have packet sniffed the connections and recorded the output, so i could script the whole thing to automate it for this current botnet.

I recently killed around 250 nodes of a subseven network. Apparently, they thought my irc server would be a good harbor. They all used the same username, and they all used similar names. After I found the bots, I put a sniffer on the bot master, grabbed his password, and then used that to gather the ports and passwords of the bots. Then, I used the 'remove server' option of the server to remove the bots from the people's machines.

It was a huge project, took me around 8 hours to do, and was a huge pain in the ass. Subseven is a damn scary trojan, only has limited flooding abilities, but it can gather a lot of information and can redirect most anything. this would allow a cracker to gather personal information, bounce a web request off of it to use a stolen credit card, or ping flood some ip.

I hope to god they manage to catch these guys and that they don't pay much attention to the news.. heh.. i'm betting they are just using subseven to bounce off a client anyway, so their ip might be diguised. all I know is that 250 of these clients are no longer around because of me, and that makes me feel a little safer.

If anyone is involved in the clean up of these clients, please get in contact with me. I might be able to provide you with operational knowledge.

The idea of corporate versus underworld culture with an element of computer trickery has been around since the late 70's, and you're just now figuring this out? Hell, the cyberpunk literature style has been pimping this idea for the past 20 years, and was considered 'dead' until Snow Crash was produced.

You'd have been better off doing a review of the cyborg element of shadowrun, since that is becoming more possible recently. I'm sure you would have lots of people (like myself) who plan to get cyber implants once they become available to the public

    Present day! Present Time! HAHAHAHAHAH

But still, an excellent anime. Here are further suggestions, all on DVD. I suggest you check out NetFlix as well, as they have Anime for rental over the net.

Ghost in the Shell: Popularized anime, big guns, naked girls, mecha, complex plot, this has everything that *is* anime. I think it's the perfect representation of the genre. And my favorite.

Bubble Gum Crisis: Another representation of the genre, it covers more of the mecha aspects, and was well done for the time. Good looking girls in powered armor, etc.

Legend of the Overfiend: a series, they recently released a box set of the first 5 disks, and the only ones worth getting. This is a 'tenticle porn' anime, and is another 'representative of the genre' things. If you ever wanted something that made your friends go 'holy crap!' check this out. NOT FOR KIDS!

Tenchi Muyo: An excellent series, following the exploits of tenchi. it's a television series, but they also have some movies on it.

Queen Emeraldas: A surprisingly good anime following the exploits of a female pirate and this little kid trying to make it in the world. It's got some pretty funny scenes and they have some really cool weapons.

Macros Plus: Unlike the first one, Macros Plus is good! (well, if you don't dig on the Minmae defense!) They have some excellent graphics, and a well thought out plot line. a classic mecha.

Neon Genesis Evangelion: giant mecca, younger actors, and very well drawn. This is an excellent anime to investigate.

Record of the Lotus Wars: Just like AD&D brought to anime. very well done.

Princess Mononoke: Soon coming to DVD! well, at least they keep on saying that. someday we'll get this great movie. a fantasy series, very very well done. Was VERY good because I saw it in the theatres.

Ranma 1/2: If you like cutsey slightly funny young girlish comedies, you might dig on this. It's not my thing, but it's still somewhat funny.

Castle of Caligistro: The spy adventures of Agent Wolf, an excellent early anime. It just came out on DVD. Another genre definer.

Project A-ko: AAHHHNOOOOOOO!!!! My personal nemesis. I hate this anime, but only because i hate C-ko. if you dig on mostly girls whining with the occational super human battle... but i HIGHLY recommend against it!

MD Geist: Another classic, very violent. Post apoclyptic genre.

Golden Boy: a voyaging student wandering the country side, VERY funny. `8r) This is a good example of humor done well... everywhere the boy goes, he finds love in a new form. most likely not for kids though. Not on DVD that I know of.

Iszer: The worst anime i've ever seen. avoid it.

All Purpose Cultural Cat Girl Nuku Nuku: Just look at the title! `8r) It's a decent anime, a happy present day, young girl type of anime. Nuku Nuku is superhuman, and it's also pretty funny. Not on DVD I don't think, can't remember

Anyway, that's all I can think of right now. There are others that are also very good classics that are not on DVD, such as Riding Bean, Akira, Appleseed, Dirty Pair, Vampire Hunter D, AD Tank Police, 3x3 eyes, Sakura Wars, and a buttload of different TV series. I highly suggest you check out an anime con sometime, I recently went to one in Chicago, and it was excellent. even got to see Cowboy Bebop for free. Which I then turned around and bought.
