actually, getting divorced might not have been such a bad thing. if you started a joke with "So this guy got married..." then yes, you should stop the joke because it definetly wouldn't be very nice to talk about them getting married, that's just plain rude.
Ok, this is the part of the article that I totally don't understand. In the first page it says that the CD's cannot play on all devices, then on the second it says that they can. WTF? Also, If they can play on computer cd-roms why would it be hard to write a program that can get around it? Once someone does it all the rippers can use the same code and you're back to square one. Aaaah, I just don't get it!!!
After thinking about this for a while, I've come to the conclusion that I totally agree with the members of the US Government who think we should put back doors in all of our encryption software. And well they're at it, I think they should also make it illegal for guns to use real bullets (they should only be allowed to use blanks) and for airplane's to only be legal if they have no engine.
It's also perfectly legal to bring a chain saw into any bank. But a big argument is 'would you rather kill someone with a knife or a gun?' Speaking from my own personal experience I would say most would choose the gun. It takes a lot more (or perhaps less?) to be able to hack someone up with a knife (or hammer or chainsaw).
Slightly offtopic question, but does anyone know of any good mixer apps to be run under X? I've been looking a little and haven't even been able to find one that uses a line 1 and line 2.
Personally, I'd rather have a bunch of worms out there exploiting all the holes in my software so that the necessary companies can be notified and patch up these holes, rather than leaving the holes open and having only a few individuals hacking into peoples' machines and using it to their advantage.
Worms are a lot easier to catch, and sure they might cause a little havock in the short term, but in the long term I think we're all better off by making exploits widely known.
Although Java might be a little slower than C/C++ for the majority of applications the speed is fine. Computers are fast enough now to make up for its slight inefficiencies.
I think the main benefit to Java is that it's great for developers. The language basically forces programmers to use good coding techniques which in turn makes modifying the code afterwords very easy.
Besides, how is this new virtual machine an alternative to java?? Isn't it just an alternative to the java virtual machine? Since this new VM can use java.
I've got two creative drives, one which is a dvd (not a dvd burner). And both are really loud. I'd recommend staying away from creative for low noise drives. I don't have a creative dvd burner though so who knows, maybe they've got them quieter now, I doubt it though.
Now that you mention it one of my hard drives completely stopped working. At first I thought it was because i had it sitting on my floor and I stepped on it. I didn't even realize that it was probably from the whole 1 billion thing. Man, what was I thinking?
Well what about a program like linux? or any other one that millions of people use. There's no way that you can satisfy all of your users and you'd need a lot of surveying to even have a good guess at what your user base wants.
For me coding is a lot of fun. I don't really care that I'm not making any money on some of my projects. But we also get paid in other ways. Namely recognition. It's nice to be recognized for something you do, for me even more so than getting paid. The whole feeling that I may have made life a little easier for someone else is pretty nice too.:-)

What emotions can you express in any other form of art. It's all dependant on the viewer of the art work. And simply because a piece of art doesn't express emotion doesn't automatically disquallify it from being an art. What emotion does a sculpture of a dolphin portray? Yet it's considered art and it's not even original. If someone puts a lot of love and effort into making their code look real nice a pretty then I think that if they portray it as art then it is art (not necessarily to someone else). Or how bout' a heiku in code display the DeCSS. Is poetry an art?
heck, you can show it to another programmer (not a perl programmer) and they won't even be able to read it. Too many damn symbols. Now that's beautiful;).
Another good one is a science center. I know the science center that I volunteered at would always take computers and computer parts in as donations and return the donators with reciepts. We had a little computer lab for anyone to come in and use and parts like that would be really good to have. As they're mostly just using 486's and pentiums. Plus there's almost always something a science center can do with a computer.
And it can be especially embarrassing when you call up your girlfriend and start talking dirty to her only to realize a few seconds later that it was actually her mother who said 'hello'. Damn I hate phones.
Well I think that with the lego mindstorms there are team competitions, which would highly encourage social interactions and working collectively in a group. Wasn't there just a story about building a robot out of mindstorms that would be used on the ISS?
well i'm using 4.73 on SunOS 5.6 and netscape crashes whenever I try to load msn.com.

MS software isn't the only software with holes. Linux has a few itself, as well as every other OS.

"including the ability to disable the JavaScript window.open() method"
;)
Awesome, this'll be great for the free porn sites!

I say screw backwards compatibility all together. Everyone wants to buy new computer parts, this just gives them a better excuse to do so. ;)
Nuff said. ;)

What are teeth good for anyway? I'm sure they can just get nasa to hook them up with all liquid food, I hear it's pretty tasty. ;)
