  1. No Matter How Repulsive the Service on Building Online Communities · · Score: 4, Insightful

Community seems to hold it together.

Community is the same reason that people stick with services that suck (AOL) - they build relationships, and while they may actually grow, in knowledge, past the use of a specific service they still maintain the service in many cases because of the warm fuzzy feeling that community provides.

Secondly would be the community of reliance types of organzations - Ebay - where people rely on seller and buyer ratings as much as anything else to feel comfortable making a purchase in an environment that is otherwise risky.

I read the books when I was about 13 or 14 and have re-read them on several occasions, including reading them with my kids right before the first movie came out. There is just something about the way that Tolkien wrote that draws you in; immerses you in the tale. The characters are so well described that you can almost smell them. In the scene when Gandalf first enters Bilbo's house I thought - That is just how I imagined it would look.

I have often been disappointed by movie adaptations of my favorite books but this one just blew me away.

C'mon guys, I never get a chance to read the sites before you all crash them!

Maybe someone should warn these sites so that they can off load some of the traffic to emergency servers.
