You are 100% correct. In high school I sold computers and other office machines at Office Depot. I had no issues with someone coming in and bluntly saying they had no idea how to use a computer or even why they wanted to buy one. Sure it was tedious explaining how to use a mouse, but it was MUCH easier than dealing with the yuppies just coming off the golf course telling me that I was wrong because "someone at the office" said this and that.
People who think they know something and don't are the worst... and I wont start on them trying to haggle with me on prices.
Anyone who knows anything about computers knows that they know nothing.
I feel your pain man, I just got my DSL back yesterday. Its sad that it takes the phone company over three weeks to transfer a dsl account. Whats worse, I just moved to a different apartment in the same complex; same phone number, etc etc etc.
I'm still waiting on my additional 7 static IPs... somehow its like my entire order has been doing nothing for three weeks.
But how can we complain? Nobody to hear us that could really care.
At least mine is in, so good luck on yours. I'm getting around 135 k/s from this mirror, so much thanks.

It would be nice to just not buy the bundle, but there is a problem:
Whereas, we are geeks;
therefore we want the newest technology.
We will want the X-Box the day it comes out, but with MS shipping around 600,000-700,000 (or something like that, I forget the exact number) you will probably see something along the lines of what happened with the PS2. All of the available units will be bundled and you simply wont be able to get one unbundled for several months.
I just remember back in the day - going to visit one of my friends at the all girls dorm just so that I could wire the entire hall and get a bunch of numbers. It worked out excellently, though its too bad the girls I met weren't the brightest.
I also have a friend at a nearby college that is on the school's IT install group. Its a much smaller school, so he has large chunks of time with nothing to do. His recommendation? Gameboy Advance. I can see the commercial now - Technical Service for the masses advanced.
It took this long for the Daikatana issues to be resolved? D'oh. I'm a big fan of Deus Ex and Their, so I definatley wish them luck. Maybe they should do some console games - then MS would pay them to code.
Ahh #ansi, so much fun =). I'm a current #ascii guy and its bugging the hell out of me that I can't get on. Yes EFnet has gone to hell, but it will stay up. Even if it does go down, all the war3z kids, the mp3 kids, the iSO/divx/mpg kids and the other random 31337 kids will find a new network. I really do wonder however how much these "scenes" (the main pull to efnet, don't fool yourself) have to do with the script kiddies or whoever is launching the attacks. I don't think there is much of a tie at all... any ideas on this?
I'll spare everyone yet another rant on why the DoS attacks are just stupid. At teh same time, it brings a tear to my eye to see #ansi typed here *sniff, sniff*
Ahh, I can still remember games that fit on _one_ floppy disk *sniff, sniff*
But I digress... this is actually pretty scary and very much like Voltaire and what happened after he wrote Candide. Could this open up sites like THe Onion to attack even when they are being so outlandish? I read Candide in senior high school, so I want to know what schools in several hundred years will be teaching the Onion so I can send my descendants there.
VIA Chipsets (KT133A) are also causing problems on *gasp* windows machines. Check out Real World Tech's latest industry update (found here). Its on the second page in the first paragraph. Basically if you stick an SB Live soundcard on some of the KT133A based mobos you get, you guessed, data corruption.
I guess this just adds to the cannon fodder

Is it just me, or are the editors at Extremetech.com some of the worst out there? I read hardware reviews all the time - from arstechinca, cnet, etc, and never before have I really noticed grammatical and typographical errors nearly as much as after reading one article on extremetech.com.
Am I the only one who has noticed this? You'd think with all the corporate backing that they would have some decent quality.
I've had my Inspiron 5000 Since the beginning of August and the only complaint I have is that they released the 5000e two weeks after I got my 5000. AH well, Linux runs much nicer on the 5000's video chipset anyway.
I got a free additional battery with my laptop. Turns out that only one of my batteries is being recalled. I've had no fire and no other problems, so I'm happy. Hell, I'm even going to have 3 batteries when all is said and done since they'll send me a replacement and another one for free. Hah! If only I had more use of 3 batteries than 'none at all.'
I am painfully aware of that, hence the last line in my post (before the signature of course) about knowing nothing.

I go to the school in the Southwest that has over . Movein is always fun, especially with getting the ethernet going ,etc. Most of the points brought up here are true - use DHCP and have a good information site available from Resident Advisors, etc.

What can I say, patching servers all morning so they don't flood whitehouse.gov's old DNS has left me brain-fried... or is that brain-freid?
