  1. Why does 'Hollywood' always want to LIMIT copy's on Tech Industry To Hollywood: Slow Down, Camper · · Score: 2, Insightful

In the whole argument here I see that Hollywood says that they need some kind of copy control or that otherwise everyone see/hear music/movie for free and therefore won't buy any CD/DVD any more.

The BIG question I have can Hollywood prove this claim? I read that at the hights of Napster the CD sales INCREASED! So this would prove that MP3 increase sales, so they sould encourige MP3 copy etc. But thats scary for big company's to think a la 'open source' (something for free can be worth something)

I also would like to see how the cost for creating a CD is. I would expect that the prices come down since the introduction, but they are stil as high! I think a very small % is for the original artist, the rest for a Hollywood company. Why not thing some kind of system that enables the consumer to download what he wants and that he pays what HE thinks what worth!

See what happened to regio control of the DVD. Here in europe you can buy regio free players, or ask the retailer to make it regio free.

It works great the regio control (NOT!!)

I espect you get a simelar situation is SSSA is introduced! The regular Joe User that doesn't know about how to avoid the copy control and a smaller group of technical enlightened people that copy anything anyhow...

If they (almost) allways get permission why border to check with a judge? The only reason I can think of to let it LOOK if it is controlled where in fact there is almost no hurdle to take if the police want to tap someone. All civilians are fooled this way, in a false sense of 'security'.

  4. Re:Control of power on Australia Spying On Its Own · · Score: 1

Yes, I heard that. We (dutch people) are very criminal I supose ;-))

Why is this then? I never heard a reasonble reasons why this is so high here. And that in a country where freedom of speach is highly good. Strange indeed.....

  5. Control of power on Australia Spying On Its Own · · Score: 3, Insightful

    Some thougts:

Under normal circumtances (at least here in Holland) a judge has to aprove a tap to prevent abuse of these powers. Was this tap cleared by a judge? This would it make much worse since the control mechanism that SHOULD contol abuse. If not than it's clear that the people who caried out this tap doesn't care for a clearancy.

I don't know what more damaging. A mislead judge or some people that tap into private conversations without a warrent!

  6. more background info and fact checking on The Hypermedia Hazard · · Score: 1

It seems to me that the general media want to put out any news as quick as possiable, without checking facts! This is a bad development since this SHOULD be one of their main objectives, to deliver credible new.

I also miss any background information. E.g. in the antrax case I see everyone run to a gasmask but I haven't heard of this has any effect since you can also get sick by direct contact. And what about other biological warfare, what can you do to protect yourself (without walking around in a biosuit)? For once I would like to see a information blok longer than the 5 minutes that CCN use before there is a commercial of something else. Take 1 hour to inform the general public about what is a real threat and what are the chances for certain cenario's. All what the media is doing right now is repeating themself that antrax is dangerus. That is no news, that is making the public scared ;-((

Not yet, you mean... The EU is very busy to implement the EUCA, a almost exact copy of the DMCA.

But here (in europe that is) there is still time to act, so pick up a pen and write your political reprensatieve a deadtree letter!
