Although there are a LOT of potential improvements to the windows file explorer both of these comments need a little light shed on them.
1) Ctrl X, C and V works great. Using the mouse and keyboard in combo is a lot faster than the mouse alone for copying/moving files. You can Ctrl C then navigate across the network, log into another machine, create new folders, whatever, then Ctrl V to copy the files. You may not like it's semantics, but it's funtionality is first rate.
2) Windows explorer opens folders when the drag is paused over them just like MacOS. It also will scroll if you drag pause at the top or bottom of a list that is larger than the window.
