Aviansus looks interesting. Too bad their website is so spare. The purchasing page, for example, has no price information. There's only a list of different pricing/seats models, without prices! I did'nt see much on how it works or what it looks like - on entering the site I think I saw a 'demo' link, but after browsing a bit I couldn't find it again, even after returning to the home page. Could be good, but they need a website overhaul.
Yeah ok, I didn't rtfa, but I just wanted to say that any progress toward ending the use of miniature displays for portable devices sounds good to me. I mean, it's a shame that today a 17" display on a laptop is considered large. Give us even a 24" high res display projected out of a pocket size PDA with wide bandwidth wireless, and we're freed from cubes and desks forever. Hell, even VGA resolution at 15" would yield an incredible increase in PDA usability. (I've been waiting for decent affordable monitor glasses, 10x8 is the best that seems to be available. Feh.)
Good managers know how to build shedules based on empirical evidence. I'd ask them what methods they use to create the work calendar. Also, I'd ask them how they would respond to higher Mgt. requests for schedule changes. Basically, there are three variables: Cost, Time, and Quality. They've got to have a grasp on just how far those values can stretch, and be able to explain to upper Mgt. what their options are. If they cannot do that, they cannot advocate for their subordinates, no matter how well meaning they might be.
I also recommend Tom Bihn bags. Well constructed, strong, and well designed for laptops.
Fairly recently I ended up with the Toshiba P-25 17-inch monster "laptop". Toshiba itself had no bags for it. They offered a rather dreary looking Targus, but attempts to order it always dead-ended at 'not yet available' messages (or something like that). A friend has mentioned Tom Bihn many times (actually, he raved about'em. One of the reasons I never looked, having already enough raving in my life, heh). So, I went off and found tombihn.com. At that time they didn't offer a bag for the new P-25 form factor lap busters, so I ordered a Brain Cell for an Apple 17-inch. That's an internal sleeve type bag with handles and straps like a briefcase. It can be used alone, or as an internal protector for use in a larger bag.
Well, the Brain Cell arrived. It looked great. Too bad, it was just a bit too small for the P-25. Called Tom Bihn, and they apologized, and cheerfully told me how to return the bag. IIRC, the return label was even included with the bag, so it was easy, really easy, to return. My credit card was credited for the purchase amount pretty fast too. And, they again apologized in email for not having a bag for me, and said that they were looking into making a bag for the new form factor.
After reading this/. thing today, I went and looked, and sure enough Tom Bihn now has a Brain Cell bag for the P-25! . He doesn't yet have an outer carrying bag, but if you just need a protective briefcase-like sleeve, this is good. If you have one of the big ones, it's worth checking out.
Lee Felsenstein has most definitely earned his chops, and has yet to sell out. Why complain about soliciting donations for good works, much less complain about black tie bene dinners? What's up with that? Have you been invited to one? If so, so what? What's it got to do with this?
Just google Lee Felsenstein, and draw your own conclusions on the results. His seminal work in the industry, BEFORE there even was an industry built on microcomputing, served to build the foundation on which we all play now. If not for the Homebrew Computing Club, it's possible that micros might not have taken off at all.
Chew on these:
Here, just check this out: http://www.cpsr.org/am/bio/felsenstein.html

Here's one where he's working on cheap de-mining tech: http://maic.jmu.edu/journal/4.1/actuator.ht m
Hey, check out his resume even, and note that even though he's been proximate to the billions, he is to this day not a rich man. He's not greedy, see: http://198.144.193.35/Resume-current.html
This guy is a mench and you'd be privileged to have an opportunity to help out one of his projects, imho. Want control over the use of the donated funds? Try getting involved in the project. You could, you know?

You forgot "education." I really hate it when someone takes MY money to help SOMEONE ELSE become as smart as or smarter than me....
Oh, come on moderators, flamebait? It's right in context, and accurate parody. Mod it UP!

After reading this
Times New Roman?
I dunno about you, but I'm seeing Arial. Sounds like maybe the specced body font family needs the addition of sans serif..
