This election is just another testament of the wisdom of our founding fathers and the greatness of our country.
There is nothing special about what the US is doing, India manages it and it's not the richest country on the planet, however it is the world largest democracy. The indian system is by far the most amazing (on the grounds that it actually works in a country of that population and poverty).
This is not a constitutional crisis, it is merely a test of our system and proof of its soundness and reason. I say long live America, and let the rest of the world stand back and marvel...
Most of the world is not in marvel of the US set up, more bemusement and certainly amusement.
If the USA was anything like 90% of the rest of the world, the country would be in flames from the rioting, looting, civil unrest, and outright rebellion that would have inevitably followed an election this close.
You'll find 90% is a bit of and overstatement, in a large part of the world the US problem wouldn't happen. The parliamentary system you have just produced a collision by this point (OK they might still be wrangling). Heck even the UK all but one (Westminster) of the assemblies/parliaments have collision in power (Scotland lib/lab and the same in Wales....NI well that's an odd situation) and most of Western Europe is run on various collision. As a bonus it also allows smaller parties to be herd and taken seriously by the public.
If you mention linux and they poo poo it, you have a good chance to do some salesman bating {sp}, providing they still think they know more than you. Take the chance to make an arse out of a clueless sales type.
Simply play the cluless l-user until they say something really technically stupid (or just stupidly wrong) and go in for the kill (best to be done in a crowed store). Hell U might get banned from the store, but U weren't planning on going back any how.
Quiet simply the reson for that lack of a report is that/. reliese on a finite pool of people to go though the stuff and some stories won't be reported (I'm over the pond and am used to this)./. makes no claims to cover everything and an article in one US paper (Regional) is not always going to be covered.
As a side note, you must know the bias that/. has and like all news sources bare this in mind when reading it.
"Over the years, Microsoft has produced a lot of great software and given us many innovations such as windows, mice and trashcans on our desktops."
I hope this is sarcasim{sp} the mac had all these fetures long before win 95 (If my memory serves me right I beleive it's about 10 years priour in system 6)
"I maintain that they are a great company and that Bill Gates is one of the greatest"
Have you ever seem his code, on the same point has anyone out there? As a bussiness man he is a one of the best, but as an inovater he has lost it. In the early days I won't take from the man, but since MS got big I have little or no time for him.
"and most innovative talents of out time. I firmly believe that Microsoft will continue to create great products for many years to come."
If they got back to basics they could do it, but they know there target market (managers, not the people who have to live with it)
BTW I know your being sarcay{sp} now (I type before my brain kicked in.
What the person said was not a troll, heck the point was (IMHO) flawed, but it was fare enough. don't put everyone who diagrees with the flow of oppion down as a trouble maker. Until recently the OSS movment types (I include my self) were put down as such, and in some circles still are.
If someone is going to troll they'll be more explisit{sp}, and some good points have come out of the debate and that's what matters.
Well in responce from a person who uses NT due to my work & linux by choice
The comment about the whole system has an obvous flaw, both linux & NT can be increadible easy to crack if the CGI scripts are bad or you run bad services/deamons this leads me onto my next point. Since the MS system forces XYZ try settings then if there is a slight flaw in the set up then it is repeated in all servers. The linux view "of here's the system" means that there is a very good chance that one hole will not appear in all servers.
This brings me to the simple fact that if you employ people who can't secure a server and have to realy on the software to do it for them (automattically), then you don't valure your security, simply because no two configs are the same and no two requierments are the same.
What it boils down to is linux/unix/*BSD is as secure as you want (at the cost of additional services and the requierment for better IT staff) NT tends to be as secure as MS believes it should be. It's a simple choice. Though the fact is a badly set up linux box is easier to crach than a standard NT box, but a well set up linux/unix/*bsd box is more secure. It depends how much security matters to you.

8am to 8pm, local time and just don't count the votes till the next day. That would solve that problem.
He in the UK the polls are open from 6:00 am till 10:00 pm for general/devolved elections, I can't remember what it is for council.
The one thing which gets me with US election if just the vast amount of cash spent, in scotland for the devolved election a cap has now been agreed of 1.5 mil for each party (no by law as yet) and a candidate for a seat is restricted by LAW on what they can spend.
This has already been done in scots cities, the only time I've seen wires above gound is outwith city/town's where it's just too expensive to bury them.
I don't know about the rest of the UK/Europe though.

I was wondering if law concering this kind of stuff is a reserved power (by westminister) or if the parliament in edinburgh has any say?
Not that I'm expecting the lib-dems to do anything about it when blair pulls the string and dewar 'decideds' to put though.
