  1. Re:perhaps the same outcome, then? on The MS vs. DOJ case arguments end · · Score: 1

No, I think Microsoft has actually been using it's monopoly in a predatory way against it's competition. There is nothing wrong with the government moderating this. This is one of the few exceptions to the rule where the government should meddle in the business of others. Don't get me wrong, I don't think what Microsoft has done in the past is "wrong". The end justifies the means to them, and they think they are saving the world of computing. They are computing zealots... but they are hindering change and the evolution of computing which to me is the most important thing.

  2. you can only have 4 I think on Ask Slashdot: IDE Software RAID? · · Score: 1

I was actually talking to my friend about this the other day and he said that when he researched it that there were limitations in the x86 architecture that allowed for only 4 controllers, and he had it working on his machine. That is, two on his motherboard and a card with two. I think he did it was because he had 8 drives they were throwing away at work, and a card. So he threw them in an old server case and loaded linux on it, it worked fine apparently.

and vi. If you know how to write and format a resume this actually isn't offensive. If you've got the skills, most "professional" headhunters/placement agencies format your resume for you anyway. You know, they actually make an effort to get you a job because that is how they make money. Isn't that novel? If you just throw your resume into a pool of other resume's on the internet I would say your not to motivated or just have the time to wait for lady luck... Get a professional with contacts, trust me they work wonders. And all you have to do is call them.

Did they actually try to install it?

I dropped out of highschool when I was a senior and retired to my room, played with linux while getting some nifty certifications. My parent's thought it was stupid, but they let me do it (I only had a credit to graduate. They were kinds pissed and wanted there 1st son to go to college. Ehh, I saw more potential in showing my hands on computer knowledge, than my knowledge of Crime and Punishment, or even to show that I could do advanced geometry proofs, though they are fun stuff.) Now I'm 20 and I'm a unix sys admin who is helping my girlfriend pay for college :-). Kind of ironic, don't you think? (she won't listen to me and get a graphics arts certificate and put a portfolio together, o well. I guess there should be SOME artists out there that still use paint, I guess ;-) I realize that I missed out on all the "social mutilation" like keg parties/binge drinking, protesting the local clam bake, and eating pizza for breakfast but I think I can live with myself. Besides, my girlfriend says college is burning her out and making her feel stupid (she seems pretty tired, I don't understand her idealism... ). I'll just sit back and read Les Miserables again, write some poetry or work on my perl scripts in liesure like it's supposed to be done! I don't understand college, it takes away all your time and energy to create, and you pay ALOT of money for it! I plan on being a millionaire by the time I'm 30, not 100,000 dollars in student loan debt. A good thing I can see about college is, it's good for numbing the senses and preparing a childs mind for the corporate world, but a few weeks of data-entry tmp jobs do the same thing, and you get payed for it!

They've got, what, 8 different versions of windows plus countless versions of DOS, and it is NOT all compatible! Where as linux you can pop one CD in, install the source code with your distro and you can run linux programs from the beginning of linux history and install on what, 10 different architectures with a certain degree of cross platform compatibility. It's amazing he can just lie like that and go to sleep at night, he must know that he's lying, I don't see how someone could be so stupid, geez! Okay, I'll stop now ;-) I'm not even going to go into all the other strategm's and lies he tells on a regular basis
