I put Netscape 4.6 in it's own directory/usr/local/netscape4.6/. will the RPM look for the new Netscape directory or will it update the environment in/etc/profile or somewhere else?
That is very interesting to learn. I am just starting to learn what's taking place. I wrote my first CGI program using C ( only because that is all I know ). I don't know if it was good programming or not. I created a text header file and a text footer file and use fgets and fputs to start and close the page created. I will eventually learn Perl but I never heard of using Javascript. I assume your server is using an interpreter. Soon, when I can figure out how to use Linux, I hope to set it up as a web server so I can play around and learn what I can. Do you know if Mysql is a good database to learn to use with CGI? Pardon my ignorance.
Frontpage butchers the code and makes it impossible to edit later. The real downer for me on Frontpage was the stupid "Microsoft" metatags it puts on every single html page you edit with it. It also seems to have a lot of bugs.
I have just started to try FrontPage98. Let me start by saying I'm no expert.:-) There is a dialogue regarding the meta tags which give you the option of deleting all the M$ tags and adding your own, or, if you prefer, none at all. As far as the code goes, I find it easy to edit by hand, but I have been coding by hand for a while so I am able to locate the code and edit easily. I am not use to using , , and tags, but I don't mind there use. I'm not sure, but I think redundant uses of , and tags are slower to render then using the tag.
Frontpage98 includes a graphic edit window, an ASCII edit window, and a preview window that you can switch between by clicking a tab at the bottom of the window.
As far as bugs go, the personal web server [PWS] seems to be the buggiest thing included. My windows desktop gets ridiculously buggy when it is running. This brings up the part I dislike about Frontpage98. I can't edit my web sites without the stupid PWS running. That is enough for me not to recommend it for web development. I should be able to set up a web site, which is under development, from a directory of my choosing.
I want to get a graphical developer package. Considering all the adulation Dreamweaver gets, I may end up buying it. You mentioned Fireworks. I have been using CorelDraw and Photopaint for quite a while. Would you consider Fireworks to be a comparable replacement?
So they do a lot of "Tweaking"
Just a mild suggestion.
I put Netscape 4.6 in it's own directory
Hope this question is appropriate. Thanks

I was referring to strong and big and small tags. Evidently, I thought I could use the less than and greater than tags. LOL -Alan

Great perspective.
my married co-workers said to me, "When you have two major responsibilities, you feel like you aren't doing either well."
Your co-worker's statement is quite sober. Thanks for the post. I hope Mozzilla lives on(at least for Linux).
