  1. Old news! on Personal GPS in a Mobile Phone · · Score: 2, Informative

GPS-enabled phones are nothing new. See these:

    Nokia Communicator GPS module

    Benefon Esc!

TerraExplorer does exactly that. Elevation maps, satellite images and flight simulation. Amazing software. Not whole planet though but almost whole U.S. states and small countries.

Quios.com already has a system that sends slashdot headlines to GSM via SMS. You get two messages every day (you can define the time of day).

I've got to say, I've got my heart set on a Nokia 7110, but if a phone comes out with Tetris, I'm getting that instead (assuming I don't have to phone anyone to use it).

Then you should try Benefon io. It has Tetris, Space Invaders and Minesweeper. And it's rather nice phone too... :-)

  5. Re:what more can they do? on Sid Meier's Civilization III -- announced! · · Score: 1

There is a Civ that lives on the net - it's called Empire.

It is just what you want - realtime multiplayer, you get thrown on a planet which you explore and develop and of course you get to fight wars with other players, do complex diplomacy etc.

It's an old game from time way before there was Civilization on PC. But be warned: it's dangerously addictive!

    Check out Yahoo's Empire links.
