Years ago there were SCSI MD drives announced, I remember seeing one in Circuit Cellar Ink. At 140 MB per disk they don't stack up to newer drives, but if Sony had persued this market more aggresively at the time they might have the marketshare that the ZIP drive enjoys now.
This proposal would convert light into electricity into microwaves back into electricity, with power loss occuring at each step.
Wouldn't it be more efficient to just put mirrors in orbit focused on a ground based solar array, or even a biomass farm? The mirrors would be cheaper, lighter, and less maintainence, and as new photovoltaic technology comes along the ground based equipment would be easier to upgrade.
Of course, you would have to limit the intensity 2 or 3 x of normal daylight levels. Ask any ant what a focused light beam can do.
USB is the key here. As more iMac-alikes come out (i.e. expansion via USB only), Linux is in danger of becoming superfluous if there isn't good USB support in a stable kernel release.
I prefer dejanews for this sort of thing. No matter how good a vendor's service is you will find someone complaining (nobody's pefrect), but if you find lots of flames then watch out.
The movie, Charly, was a theatrical release actually. IMDB has it at http://us.imdb.com/Title?0062794

Kinda gives a new meaning to 'core dump', doesn't it?

Also, she was a passenger in a stopped car.
