  1. Re:Let's spare the GNOME vs. KDE flames on CDE vs Gnome · · Score: 3

    Spot on AC!

Having recently installed and experimented with both Gnome and KDE, my honest and impartial assessment is pretty much summed up by you.

I like Gnome, I think it is "tres cool", but at the moment it does not seem to be as functional as KDE, which conversely does not have the cool look of Gnome, but does have the edge in usability and ease of installation and configuration (just!).

And as you so succinctly put it - the operative word is *NOW* - they are indeed both in development and destined to improve with time.

P.S. I do love the little Gnome foot symbol - very chic!

If for some reason someone cannot configure PPP, just tell them to look for and use wvdial, it comes with Debian, and I'm sure it's available for other distro's.

It is the simplest setup and use ppp dialer/client you will find, almost foolproof!

Let me guess, your first computer was a Pentium and you're too young to really remember the original release of Doom, right?

Half-life is a nice game, that is true, but you are comparing a Model T Ford to a Ferrari F50 - both revolutionary in their respective era, but head to head - no fair contest!

Imagine trying to run HL on your 486sx-25, with 4Mb RAM, 120 Mb HDD and 512k VGA - I don't think so...

Too late - their bragging about their success let the cat out of the bag!

I remember first seeing it on a friends machine.

I was taken aback by the quantum leap in gaming it represented - a real third dimension - the ability to totally immerse oneself into a game.

Now I feel like one of those junkies who say they're always chasing their first "high" - everytime a new game comes out I check it out to see how cool it is, but I never get that same feeling as the day my buddy uttered those unforgettable words "Hey, check out this new game - it's called Doom!"

I can't see the screen now - I'm all teary!!!

I hate to have to break this to you dude, but any lifeform, sentient or not, is merely a biological machine, with an admittedly powerful and extensive neural network for a cpu, which is capable of learning (read: adding new algorithms).

How do you know what a dog or cat really feels, maybe it is just performing the logical outcome of it's own neural algorithms.

And who knows for sure, maybe one day some of these machines may evolve into more than just the sum of their parts?

And it's good to see a review from someone not trying to brown-nose to the Paltrows and DiCappucinos and who obviously goes to a movie for the same reason as I do, enjoyment, and not to be moved or have my psyche prodded and have a little cry, boo-hoo :-(

Long live Taco and Katz...May their burrito's never be without beans!

What great good deed has GUID done? It hasn't ended the war in Kosovo, or the conflict in East Timor, or created a cure for cancer!

All I can see that it has accomplished is proving that we cannot trust a certain software giant, that it is willing to act in collusion with many world governments by seeking to track our every move and word, and undermine our freedom of speech and thought.

I for one don't want to live in such an "Orwellian Nightmare".

This foolish guy has done the "right thing" - paid for and registered software, and the company he supported with his purchase, even if he maligned them slightly with his impish prank, has turned his confidential information over to the authorities without so much as a passing thought!

What happens if - as someone in this topic has mentioned - he was merely the original sender of an innocuous document, a scapegoat or a pawn in a much larger plan being used as a "red herring" by the real culprit?

Who really knows for sure, and most people feel that the real underlying issue is not what he may or may not have done, but the method used to catch him. Forgive my ignorance of US legalities, but doesn't this amount to a flagrant breach of his civil rights, or some constitutional amendment?

If the guy did it, then it's obvious that he's no candidate for MENSA, but I just think the way they went about it sucks!
