The problem is that it does so at HUGE expense; an expenditure of money that would be better spent adjusting to higher temperatures than trying to change them. After all, if we could stop hurricanes from reaching the US shore, we would be willing to spend $1B on each one. We don't do that because We Can't Change The Weather. All we can do is deal with it, and Kyoto wastes the money needed to do that. -russ
Look at the numbers. The treaty isn't about slowing down the damage, it's about slowing the *increase* in CO2 emissions, and even then only by a few percent. Do you understand differentials? -russ
Why does everyone assume that 1) changing the CO2 level will reduce global warming, 2) that we are the cause of the current CO2 level, and 3) that we can change the current CO2 level? There's no science here, it's all based on faith. Environmentalism is a religion, and the US is a country that does not foist religions on its populace.

The world's biggest polluter? Dude, have you ever been to India? My god, you cannot BREATHE the air in Bombay. Give me Los Angeles, give me New York, any day before Bombay. -russ
Yes, look at the Minneapolis Hiawatha Light Rail system. It cost almost double the estimates, ridership is not meeting targets, and traffic in the city is now worse because the trams have priority at traffic lights.
The RUF is the only mass transit that would work in the US, because it preserves the attributes of the private automobile. -russ
Yes, any mass transit system that doesn't work "just like a car" will not be used by Americans. The only exceptions are cities that grew up around mass transit like Chicago, Boston and New York city. -russ
One of the biggest problems with public transport, is that many people still have to walk a considerable distance before they reach their final destination.
Unlike the RUF, where you drive your car out of your garage, head for the nearest RUF intersection, drive up on the guideway, and it drives you to the RUF intersection nearest your destination, where you continue driving manually there. Door to door mass transit. -russ
The problem is that it doesn't work like a car. The RUF works like a car, and has all the benefits of the SkyWeb that you listed in your posting PLUS you can drive on and off it. -russ
It doesn't have to be perfect. It just has to be a better driver than average. Of course, if you're already a better driver than average, well, sucks to be you, but at least you won't get HIT by an automated car as often. -russ p.s. A better "intelligent highway" is at http://www.ruf.dk

No matter what you decide to vote for, taking the time to vote is important.
Only for the same reason that it's important to defend yourself against criminals. What is truly bizarre is the people who think it's IMPORTANT to vote. Personally, my vote is for nobody. Maybe nobody will get elected and the government will close shop and everybody involved will have to GO HOME AND GET A PRODUCTIVE JOB. -russ
If you live in New York State, or any number of other states, it's STUPID to get out of vote. There are 6 million Democrats and 4 million Republicans. Unless 2 fucking million Democrats stay home (unlikely) the Democrats are going to win. Stay home and watch the whinging on TV, or go vote for Nader, Cobb, or (preferably) Badnarik so the Libertarians won't have to fight the ballot access fight for the next four years. -russ
The radio is streamed using a proprietary Microsoft protocol. I wouldn't brag about that, if I were you. Streaming MP3s is the high-tech way to do it. -russ

You are an economic ignoramus. Google for "broken window fallacy".

Each domain will need a dns entry, but you can point multiple domains to the same key pair.

It would be better to shut down NASA and give us our tax dollars back so that we can fund the X-Cup through private initiatives.

Jef Raskin's Pascal Poster. Way cool if you've never seen it before. Still way cool but nostalgic too if you have seen it before.
