Mandrake distro is one of only two distrobutions the I would suggest to a newbie. The other one would be Corel Linux. As for Caldera, I just didn't like that one at all. The most entertaining thing about it was the little tetris game during the install, which sadly enough, is not copied to any other distros.
But I still say that Mandrake is at the top of the pack with Corel for newbies. As for the more experianced and adventurous, may I sugest Slackware.:) Come see my website. http://come.to/streiff
Every company wants to control the market and make all the money themselves while totally shafting the consumer. You would think that everyone would try and share the specs and make a universal console that any company could make and therefore have a large player base with compatible hardware, and have the specs change every fe months or years.
This way the software companies could make a game and not worry about which platform do develop it for.
At any rate it would be better for the consumers and not the console companies so odds are it will never happen and we will always be stuck with the same question:
What console do you want to buy? Come see my website. http://come.to/streiff
Think about it, what if the machines had self modifying code that depended on a set a variables. One wrong pointer and the new set of variables depends on the technilogical trend...

Seams like the Media is taking the reverse of my subject statement, and presumming Good News is No News. The Media is like any other business. They want to make money, and negitive news or comments is what drives there ratings.
Sad but True isn't it? Why else are we getting a negitive spin off of most media most of the time?
I see Linux as the most popular Open Source operating system right now. Did You chose Linux due to its current popularity, or due to it's usability and price.
As well, are you taking advantage of Open Source by making alterations to the code of the Open Source programs you are using?

I would like to see a true cound of the amount of Linux users, but I can see no way in which we can get a close number by doing this. Perhaps the distrubutions can put a note in their installation process saying that out of curiousity sake, go to the Linux Counter and register themselves/machines so we can get a more accurate count of the amount of Linux Users out there.

More Linux gaming will be a great boost to Linux. However, if we are to really make linux for everyone, we need to make an idoits version of linux with a self installing program, and a utility that vertually does all the system administrators tasks. However, until someone does that, keep on making and porting games. After all, even penguins like to have fun.:) All I have to do is get enough money to but CIV:CTP.
