  1. Re:Winware (OT) on Linux Distro for ABIT Hardware · · Score: 1

Just so you know, support does exist for the SiS 6326 chipset, although it's not a walk in the park getting it to work. If you just want basic X services, it's possible. Make sure you're using an X server >= 3.3.3.

Having said that, you'll have a heck of an easier time running Q3A on your new Matrox card than on the SiS 6326, but it's usable.

    Hold on!

I use Office to create a school newspaper. I've been doing it for three years, and i've learned how they say i should do it. You know what i've learned over the past few years?

If you're doing anything where formatting really matters, Office sucks. The text frames can't be positioned absolutly, the text doesn't fill in around them very well, nor around other objects. The picture scaling leaves something to be desired-- and that thing is antialiasing. Don't even get me started on how the formatting is attached to paragraphs.

I know how to use Word. I've looked up all the documentation and tutorials i could and i found that there is are two ways to do what i want to do; one of them's LaTeX, the other's QuarkExpress. Word just doesn't cut it in publication.

  3. Not to mention... on The G4 and Apple's Second Coming · · Score: 1

Not to mention that he also credits the G4 to some sort of personal vision, and says that the G4 could not have come about in a corporate setting, but wait a minute... Apple HAS a corporate setting. I don't think you can attribute a processor that took Apple, IBM and Motorolla to some sort of personal vision. I would be willing to bet that there were hundreds of people that came up with the design for the G4. Lets face it: the reason i'm not getting a G4 is that if Apple was given the power, they'd be just as bad if not worse than the devils at Redmont. Think different is an odd motto for a line of products where the only difference is the color of the case. -Shelrem

  4. Personal Freedoms != Libertarianism on Intel Undercuts AMD · · Score: 1

Here's a quick and easy (if oversimplified) way to look at a few of the major political paradigms: there are two factors, social freedoms and economic freedoms. Leftists believe in social freedom, and economic control. The right believes in economic freedom and social control. Libertarians believe in economic and social freedom, and finally, totalitarians believe in both social and economic control.

This means that most Slashdot readers, like myself, is left-wing. Censorship is bad because it infringes on the rights of the individual. Government interference in illegal business practices is good because it favors choice for the consumers-- the people.

I like my life free and my economy regulated. It doesn't mean that it's the only way to think, just mine, and that doesn't mean that we just root for the underdog every time, either. On the other hand, competition is good.

  5. Nah. on Review:Austin Powers, The Spy Who Shagged Me · · Score: 1

No, i have to say, i liked it as PG-13. While, i doubt anything would've offended me if it were rated R, it's just so much fun for them to play with the audience. I mean, a great deal of the humor just wouldn't have been there if they were allowed to show everything and say anything. Dancing around the subject is funny, because when you finally do hit the audience with something, it's much more effective.

Half of the fun was avoiding the subject.

p.s. I have to say, i liked this one better than the first, but i do have to go back and see the first again.

    p.p.s. I got to see it on the 10th @ 9:50PM! ;-D

  6. Re:Even Worse/Much Better Thing on Creative ports Glide · · Score: 1

That's great that Creative is developing a wrapper to let people with Creative cards to run Glide based apps, but if nVidia would just release the SPECS on the RivaTNT, they could just have us little developers do that stuff for them, and i'd finally be able to run Quake2 respectably under X. As if having to wait for the windows release of Q3T wasn't insulting enough! Truely, the important thing is for nVidia to release the information so we can make our own drivers and programs for the TNT chipset. All this is just a bandaid.
