  1. Re:Why does Slashdot... on Libertarian Party Suit Could Mean A 3-Party Debate · · Score: 1

Why would you assume you must vote for Kerry in order to remove Bush from office? Because everyone else is voting for Kerry, right?

What if everyone who wanted to remove Bush from office voted for Badnarik instead of Kerry? Wouldn't that have the same effect? So why don't they? Because Kerry is better?

The problem is not just with the voting system. There is a real problem with education and the media that conditions people against voting outside the Republican and Democratic parties.

From a computational accuracy perspective, mpg123 is the only decoder you mentioned which produces output in full compliance with the MPEG standard.

It can be overcome pretty well by booting from flash memory. That's what the empeg does; it can boot in about 8 seconds, maybe less.

MP3 decoding can be done with a SA-1100 CPU in anywhere from 24-43% of real time, depending on the decoder. In fact I am working on such a decoder.

  4. LinuxMac, hfsutils, and GPL on LinuxOne's "LinuxMac 0.9" Investigated · · Score: 5

As the author of hfsutils, and someone who is actively investigating this matter, I can confirm that LinuxOne's LinuxMac product as currently distributed provides no real functionality except a GUI wrapper and the ability to create Macintosh HFS file systems by bundling hformat.

The fact that the GPL'd hformat is included without a conspicuous copyright notice, without a copy of the GPL, and without including or making an offer to obtain the source has understandably raised my concern. Since I own the copyright, I am in the process of pursuing a legal remedy.

If you've purchased a copy of LinuxMac, or if you have information or concerns about the way it is being distributed, I'd like to hear from you.

If you are an open source community invitee for directed shares, you should call E*TRADE immediately at (888) 707-8680 x4263 to re-confirm your Conditional Offer. E*TRADE has also been calling people who placed Conditional Offers to re-confirm. Don't feel upset that the web site only allowed a brief window to re-confirm online; this was only for the public shares offering, not the directed shares. You will have to use the phone (or wait for them to call you) to make sure you can still indicate your interest. Don't wait for them to call -- call now!
