I started noticing that major companies like Amazon.com and ebay started switching some of their servers to apache after microsoft released their pricing scheme for Win2k. I'm not sure if these large e-commerce sites really want to pay thousands of dollars in licensing for each server for the win2k upgrades. I'm sure they don't also want to pay that $1000+ license for having a "largish" web site per server. I think win2k will be the downfall of microsoft.
I posted something like this in an earlier story, so don't flame me for being lame. I just think the whole ficticious hidden programs in the service pack are funny. You can find it here.
This is an excerpt from an article about I just read about microsoft.
Companies that use the Microsoft Windows NT 4.0 operating system may experience an internet connection slow down in the next few months. Without telling anyone Microsoft Corp. added in something new to their latest Service Pack. It's called 'kill_linux_at_any_cost.exe'. What is does is, it finds internet sites such as the slashdot, and posts psychotic articles about linux being the work of the devil, and how Hitler ran linux. Apparently Microsoft was fearing the worst in the DOJ Anti-Trust case, and needs all the PR support it can get. It runs as an NT service that you cant get rid of.
I'm wondering who gets "the letter" for andover's IPO. I think anyone with a karma of 20 and above should get it, because they are the people who acutally make slashdot what it is. I know I come for the discussions.

Without telling anyone Microsoft Corp. added in something new to their latest Service Pack. It's called 'please_god_we_need_public_support_on_this_one.exe '. What is does is, it finds internet polls such as the CNN one and many "slashdot" polls and votes pro micrsoft over and over again. It also has a patch to find servers that let users post comments by creating very irritating "first post" comments that are meant to drive people away from anti-microsoft websites. Apparently Microsoft was fearing the worst in the DOJ Anti-Trust case, and needs all the PR support it can get. It also has a feature built in where if the poll records the IP of the voter the program BSOD's the computer forcing a reboot therefore a different IP (for you DHCP users). It runs as an NT service, and you can download the patch to get rid of it here.
I also heard that you need a $4500 dollar license to let your buddy come over look at your new win2k box.
man... microsoft is asking for way too much for something that is not so revolutionary. I guess they hope that companies will think its better becuase its more expensive. I hope companies go to linux becuase its free.
Apache running mod_perl is much more stable I assure you. And much more secure than IIS. See this advisory. In all honesty, have you ever used apache? Its time tested and runs the majority of internet servers. Install apache (even in NT) and see how much better it is. I promise you will never go back.
so, the people who work at the airport don't respect peoples human rights, becuase if you talk about carrying a gun or bombing the airplane your ass gets thrown in jail immediately! The schools are protecting human rights. They are protecting the humans who aren't killing other humans.
You don't scream fire in a movie theater that is trying to finish up rebuilding from the fire a year ago where countless numbers of teachers and students were killed.
I have a little brother in HS. I wan't every kid talking about shooting another kid immediately in prison. I don't want to have my brother dead becuase the school didn't want to violate some kids rights. PEOPLE UNDER 18 HAVE NO RIGHTS!
I know the article stressed the k6-2+ stuff. I figure that the new chip will cost as much as an athlon at same clock speed. It new so its gotta be jacked up in price.
** If MS used the athlon (cause that is the only way they will be able to compete)** AMD athlon 500mhz - $ 200 Mother Board - $ 138 64MB - $ 65 DVD drive 6x - $ 77 4Gig - $ 65 a 56K modem - $ 50 GeForce 256 - $ 208
total - $803
And that's leaving out some stuff like power supply, case,...
'plug and playability' that other consoles have always had. What for the controllers? You actually have to reboot the console the get it to recognize the extra controller you just plugged in. So no, its not plug and play. That would be funny if every time you plugged in your joystick to play your favorite X-box game you have to insert the driver CD!
it will still get messy when you open up more than 4 or 5 windows. It will just be messy in 3d. You won't be able to see through windows to the ones behind them in 3Dland. So instead of moving your mouse to the point on your "2D" screen and clicking you have to move your mouse in 3D space. Taking longer to get there.
I just thought of this. We have 3d desktops. If you move one window in front of another window the moved window lands on top of the original. Hence 3d. Its incredibly rudimentary, but by definition its 3d. Just think about it. Just cause you can't look at it from an angle doesn't mean there aren't different planes of windows. All 3dwm does is look nice, and let you view your windows at an angle. This won't be truly useful until we have 3d displays.
I would like to see some documentation. I am very interested in visualization of 5 dimensions by a 3 dimensional being. That would be a revolution of the science world. That is nobel prize type stuff. Could someone please post a link to this guys work.
I am standing behind the theories of Einstein, Hawking, and Chin. No 3 dimesional being can visualize 4 dimensions of space.
2d "space" is a plane with no thickness. So it's not space.
and...
Visualizing a 4th dimension by a 3 dimensional creature is impossible. Its like take the cartesian coordinate plane. That's 2d. Then make a line perpendicular to those 2 lines. Thats Z and 3d. Then make a line perpendicualar to X, Y, and Z. You can't. You would have to visualize the 4th dimension do to that. And us 3ders can't. Go out and get a book called Hyperspace.

I am 17 years old. Honestly I would not kill anyone. Your post disturbs me.

not at1/4th the price to compete w/ the PSXII

I got all the prices from Pricewatch.com.
remember Intel and Microsoft have nothing to do w/ this so it might acutally be done in 3-5 years
I thought it was exabyte
its still not possible
how could color be a dimension? how could you program a window manager in "time"? That fscking hilarious. ROTF
it was supposed to be a joke post. you know ... humor ... mabye you coded the echelon ...
I am currently in america on a linux box located in Great Britan. Hrm... lets see
WACO
KILL THE PRESIDENT
BOMB AMERICANS
NUCLEAR SECRETS
APPLE G4's SOLD TO CHINA
Did I just transmit through the echelon? Probably.
This is how you get around the echlon.
w4c0
k1ll th3 pr3s1n3nt
b0mb 4m3r1c4nz
nuc134r z3cr3tz
4pp13 g4'z s0ld t0 ch1n4
All the l33t0 hax0rz were just hacking the echelon. All hail those who hack the planet.
thats funny. You can't visualize 4D much less code a wm for it.
lenght x width x height x ?
read a book called "Hyperspace"
