    Yeah... gee i wonder why redhat is first, the packages come straight out of cvs nearly ready to be packaged. Debian has to actually do some work first, making it comply with policy and whatnot.

    put down that crack pipe. Creative most definately DID NOT allow creation of open drivers. they hired someone to write binary only drivers, which is a bad thing, I will never buy any hardware which is not supported with a Free driver. (Freedom, not beer)

    The reason it is bad is because apple is allowed to leech off the community without. Say hundreds of people start wroking on Darwin.. then apple says "Your license is terminated". You must immediately destroy all copies of the software and stop distributing it, but.. apple is allowed to keep developing and distributing it. Wow wouldn't that be nice.

    Well, the GPL clause is only because of a *court decision* forcing you to stop distributing it.

    Apple retains the right to revoke the license if they are even threatened with a patent infringement, it says nothing about a court judgement.

    No, all someone has to do is even threaten with a patent infringement. There is nothing saying the case has to be won in court... and it doesn't matter if apple would do this or not. It's the fact that the possibility exists. What if management 5 years from now doesnt like "opensource"? Then we are screwed.

    apple can terminate your license at ANY TIME. Meaning when they say so you have to remove the source from your machine, yet they get to keep distributing it
