I find the idea that nerds would ever chase off women particularly amusing. Hell, most of us would KILL to have women around. If women are electing to not pursue the field, it's certainly not because they're unwelcome. On every team that I've ever been on with women, the guys went out of their way to be nice to them.

Well then--we big, strong men must put a stop to this at once and step in to help protect these weak little creatures! I actually recently installed 8.1 on my main gaming rig and found it quite fast and easy to use, actually.
2) Your current hardware is suddenly obsolete because it's last years model and it's not supported anymore.
Windows 8.1 has the exact same hardware requirements as Vista and Win7. In fact, it's even more lightweight and less demanding than Win7. If your hardware is so old it can't run Vista, then yes, that could be a problem But I'm pretty sure a 10+ year old computer hardware would choke on the latest version of most modern Linux distros too.
