Why should it surprise you that people enjoy watching good videogame players? They're been watching good sports players for centuries. Shit, people will pay thousands of dollars for a Superbowl ticket these days in the nosebleed section.
I'm sure that was part of it. I do worry though about the possibility of them deciding to exploit it as an ad platform and suddenly seeing every Twitch stream flooded with periodic Amazon ads and/or featuring an annoying scroll at the bottom of ever stream telling me about all the great deals available today at Amazon. I hope Bezos wouldn't be that stupid.
Okay, so this made a lot more sense when it was Google/YouTube making the buy. But what is Amazon looking to get here? Better streaming tech for their streaming Prime service? More FireTV users (if they make Twitch a FireTV exclusive for example)? Not quite understanding their motivation here.
Who woulda done thunk that one of the poorest states in the Union would also have shitty broadband and shitty test scores? I bet they have crazy high infant mortality, shitty health in general, and a high per-capita crime rate too.
Maybe the high infant mortality rate is what caused the shitty broadband.
Companies are required to pay above the prevailing wage for the position and region.
First of all, the "prevailing wage" is already artificially lowered because of the presence of H1B's. But, even so, it doesn't matter because there are a million ways around this law anyway. Want to get around having to pay your Indian software engineer the prevailing wage for a software engineer? No problem! Just hire him as a "Junior Programmer."
And the best thing about hiring a vIsa worker isn't even the low pay or the way it artificially drives down wages even for your American workers. It's the fact that you can threaten to have them deported if they complain or ask for a raise. They're the perfect indentured serv...oops...I mean "workers."
Keep dreaming. Whatever the reason behind this, you can be damn well sure it has nothing to the with the Chinese government going all goody-two-shoes and wanting to act in the best interest of its citizens.
The central, but unspoken, premise of the modern environmental movement is that mankind is a blight on the earth and everything mankind does is bad for the planet. Our very existence is a problem. We are a cancer on Mother Gaia (one that presumably must be eliminated).
Yet, oddly enough, I see very few environmentalists stepping forward to volunteer to commit suicide first. I guess they think THE REST OF US need to go; but somehow they're too goddamned important. Must be the fragrant smell of their own farts that makes them so special.
3) MS originally bribed officials to attempt to force ordinary people to Linux desktops knowing they would eventually complain enough to make the whole experiment fail and spin a cautionary for any that follow...
True, but some cities are definitely worse than others. In most decent cities, the public officials at least have the decency to try to temper their corruption to a certain limit and at least keep it quiet.
You think corruption is bad in Chicago, come to Atlanta or New Orleans sometime. Local officials there all but solicit bribes with TV ads. Good luck finding a public official who ISN'T running at least two side hustles, sending city contracts to their brother-in-law, and fucking three mistresses.

I'm sure something this big will be handled by a direct fund transfer through the banks, probably overseen by the bank presidents personally.

And THAT pretty much sums up what has always held Linux back (and probably always will).

No the real crime is that he encouraged people to watch Fast & Furious 6 .

You spoiled kids. In MY day we had to make out own bits and logic gates out of Neanderthal bones!
Wish I had mod points for you. I get so sick of the Monsanto bashing on /. sometimes. They're treated even more unfairly than Microsoft here.
They're very sneaky.

No corruption in the Chinese government? Either you're a troll or a party member.
Good for you, Apple!
Alas, the first one does not follow from reality.
Alas, it's unspoken, but VERY much real.
Note to self: Birds are fucking stupid.
We must eliminate these "Hawk" and "Raptor" predators before they kill all our birds!!
It's always something with environmentalists.

Or maybe not... ;^)
Unlikely, but possible. ;-)
They figured turnabout was fair play.
Obviously you've never tasted the delicious "," fish. My mouth is watering just thinking about it.

If you have an all-robotic workforce, who's going to buy the products they produce?
