Or you can get a used Watchguard Firebox XCore or XCore-e series for around $50-100 on ebay. Drop in a 2 or 4GB Compact Flash and you're in business. Looks professional with working LCD display with a few modifications. I'm not sure about throughput over VPN so that could be a dealbreaker for some. The XCore-e series has gigabit NICs if you need the extra bandwidth.
