It's really not much of a fallacy when you consider that certain presidential candidates lamented the fact that gun manufacturers couldn't be sued just because evil people misused their product, the clear intent of which was that said manufacturers would be litigated out of existence. I was simply applying Her logic to other misuses. Anyway.

Your view that "assault rifles" have but one sole purpose is incorrect. The fact that military and police have a similar firearm does not mean that everyone else uses it the same way. I use mine for target competition. I know ranchers who use one for varmint control (prairie dogs, coyote, and the like). Korean shopowners used them to great effect in the defense of their property during the Rodney King riots. What we don't need is people deciding for us what we do or don't need.

I'd prefer to take it to the anti-gun's conclusion: anytime something is used for evil, the entire industry must be destroyed. DUI? Ban all cars, alcohol, and drugs (including medicines). Assault with a baseball bat? Ban sports. Cyberbullying? Ban computers. Works for a lot of things!

  11. That's along the lines of the post-Cold War joke about how the CIA and KGB spooks got together for drinks and started discussing who had the hardest job. The CIA said they had it rough because Soviet society was so closed that it made it extremely difficult to nurture informants and get info out of the country. The KGB laughed and said they had it worse because American society was so open and sharing that it was impossible to reduce the signal-to-noise ratio to the point where useful intelligence could be gathered.

I wish I had mod points for this, despite the AC. I discover this a lot while reading news; if a link is behind a paywall or disabled because I block ads, then I can do one of three things: disable the blocker if I think the content is worth it, find the information somewhere else, or decide that I really don't care that much and move on with my life.

It's their site and they can do whatever they want with it. As a consumer, it's up to me to decide if it's worth it.

There's quite a lot of literature available regarding the Hawaiian Sovereignty movement. While a (very vocal) minority, a lot of locals support the sentiment while acknowledging that restoration of the monarchy isn't really in their best interests.
