    I could be wrong, but I thought that Apple would have been compensated for their efforts in complying with the AWA-order? I don't remember anything about them doing it for free.

  2. Next step: have the FBI manufacture a 'terrorist' to arrest who used strong encryption (provided by the FBI) so as to have an even more sympathetic case.

    They tried this already. It was called "Fast and Furious" and the only reason why no one was indicted when it was discovered was that everyone involved were Democrats.

    Of course they're asking for a rubber stamp. They'll never say that outright, of course, but the GOP will continue to be criticized as obstructionist until they hold a hearing. Then, when they Bork the nominee, they'll get criticized again for being obstructionist. The only way for the howls to go away (despite a grand tradition of the Democrats doing exactly this) is to rubber stamp the nominee. In short, since Repubs will get criticized either way, why make more work for themselves?

    Stability? Are you kidding? You do realize that "advise and consent" != "rubber stamp," right? As well have read the history of GWB's nominations? The only thing different here is that people aren't used to Republicans actually exercising power.

    ...the new WordPerfect? I mean, while I'm sitting here trying to format a thesis, I'm hit with the "ZOMG BACKDOOR" headline. I mean, sure, if someone really wants to know how badly Uttar Pradesh is fucking up basic electricity (half the size of California with twice the population and a third of the electrification, all of which is based on who got elected), then hey, Hillary totes deserves election becuz vayjayjay or something.

    I enjoy driving as well (even if it's my 2013 fly-by-wire Honda Accord), but I like the cruising/slaloming along Route 101 kind of driving, not the sudden start/stop of I-5 through LA or Seattle.

  16. There is driving, then there is slamming on your brakes every 15 feet in LA traffic. I would much rather be productive and/or preserve my sanity by letting the car handle that particular level of hell and save the fahrvergnügen for less urban environs.

    Actually, yeah, I have a lot of trust in Director Comey's integrity. He was the guy who threatened to resign rather than renew the warrantless wiretapping program while AG Ashcroft was in the hospital.

    Storing classified material on an unsecure server (which, to be clear, her server was the definition of unsecure) is in fact a serious crime.

    There's a bakery in Oregon that would disagree with you. There's also a farm in New York and a florist in Seattle. We are absolutely not free to refuse, unless it's against someone not on the Approved Victim List.
