the one thing apple doesn't do, and the only thing that matters, is to integrate all channels and sources into a singe interface. you can search for breaking bad and netlix pops up, you can search for KUWTK and E! shows up, you can search for GoT and HBO shows up. this is the only thing that will truly "solve" tv.

the joke is on people who think Apple missed out by not producing their own tv, as opposed to a set top box. looool. tvs have razor thin margins and people will hold on to a set for 10 years. sounds like a shitty business to be in.

The only way to avoid technical surveillance is to keep everything sensitive away from email or phone calls or instant messages.

I don't have any sensitive stuff I'm afraid they'll see. It just annoys me that I can't have a private conversation in the privacy of my own home. Even if I'm not a target for "tailored operations", my data is still vacuumed up through PRISM/XKEYSCORE/whatever other program. And that really sucks.

    am I really SOL?????

I'll also add, since I'm reposting anyway, that it sucks that LA County installed license plate readers everywhere and now they log all my car trips. cmon people, srsly? next thing they're going to get rid of cash.

It's depressing. As a privacy-aware and generally technologically literate but not super savvy about encryption protocols, etc, I don't know what to do. I want to have some measure of privacy, but I don't want to step out of the mainstream phone ecosystem. These days is it mandatory for me to put my tinfoil hat on to get a bit of space to myself?

Your comment is not related to the summary or the article. The summary says "It was a different approach toward the same goal of multiplying the number of firearms in the world," but this is a misinterpretation. The goal isn't to make cheap guns. you think buying a home CNC machines and manufacturing a gun bespoke piece by piece is going to multiply the number of firearms? There are factories in China belching out thousands of assault rifles every day.

The ghost gunner is about taking away from congress the means to protect yourself. there are people in congress and elsewhere that think nobody should have guns and any firearm should pass through govt hands. this is wrong. the ghost gunner is a proof of concept, and it's scaring a lot of people.

the justice system moves slow, but when it gets moving in a direction it can sweep over a topic like a tsunami (eg a strong tide). think of gay marriage. There was no single block buster case. Instead, it was a progression, where in some states it was legalized, in other states it was illegalized. Everywhere it went to district courts, and some won and some lost. These filtered up to state supreme courts, again with a variety of rulings and justifications. Then, federal district courts ruled different ways. Finally, the supreme court has taken on a couple cases, that in aggregate, should settle the issue once and for all.

Prepare for a similar process here. There are some encouraging signs. SCOTUS has taken on two really big privacy vs. technology suits in the past couple years, and in both cases ruled unanimously (9-0) for privacy. police GPS trackers without warrants in 2010 I believe, and police searching cell phones without warrants in 2013 I believe. Also, a number of district courts are taking on the no fly system, and one in particular is doing a really great job of pushing through the states secrets claims that the fed is trying to make. (link omitted, cuz I'm at work and can't spend a couple mins searching google right now).

So in short, there's hope, but it will take some time. But when it happens, it will be a total victory.
