Does anyonw knows about really big websites and/or big magazine or newspapers editors using Joomla or any other off-the-box cms solution?
As much I read, I always see examples like these:
- Oh! It was wonderfull for my College Club Newspaper - My 80 years old client loves that - Any webdesigner can customize it.
But when it gets boiled down to integration beetween other systems, content flowing from one site to another and stuff like that, I sometimes feel that theses guys (at least those that I've saw until now), will not make the point.
Maybe I'm wrong, I'm kinda biased from material that i've read, actually I need to get some of these guys, install them and use it to get a better idea.
Why do you care so much about we are using linux or windows?
I live and work (a lot) in Brazil. I'm on the IT field, and most of the people I know uses linux, my company uses Linux/Intel in most of its datacenter.
Comme on! Don't blame about stuff you don't know!
Our voting machines (which are xxx times better than the diebolds) mostly run a port of linux.
There is a huge movement to migrate all government software to open source.
And people don't hate the US, we maybe disagree with a lot of the things the US Government does. But after all, hate is not a common word in Brazil. Of course you have those narrow minded that think the US are the devil, but these are a very small portion of the population.
We have a lot of taxes here, we suffer to buy a decent computer, paying absurd customs fees.
But in case of software? I think it should be much higher!!! If we have a option on open source, why pay at all?
Hello people, here in Brazil we have eletronic voting since 1994, in the last presidents ride back last year, we were able to have the results just about 4 hours from the end of the process.
IMHO the equipment is very good, several enitities got samples to check for its consistency and fail-proof and the equipment are uncrackable.
Obviously, it consists of several security measures around all the process but since Electronic voting started here, the cases of fraud in the election processas are zero.
Hope you have some kind of it soon, it's realy good stuff
Here in Brazil we have a group, called TrackSource, wich carries a project of mapping all the country roads and streets, people drive with their gps's, then submit tracks to a moderator which compiles it in a broader map and then put it for free on a site.
