What's this "allow" stuff, as in, "We will allow MP3s to exist?" I think it's like King Canute "Allowing" the tide to come in.

I'm struggling to work out how OGR is 'useful' to the majority of people, since most of us don't do the rather specialized uses listed on the page.

Breaking RC5-56 & DES was useful. It showed how weak these levels of encryption are. Breaking RC5-64 seems less useful, simply because it's taking so long that RC5-64 seems to be strong enough.

Finding digits of PI, primes, OGR & other similar mathematical series seems useless to me. Does anyone really care if we find the next biggest in the series? Will it make any difference to our lives? I don't think it will.

If we really want to make a difference, perhaps we should try a RC5-40 challenge. This is the default security in most SSL enabled webbrowsers, and by my estimates, at the current cracking rate, would take seconds for distributed.net to break.

Publicising just how weak 40 bits is would be a useful thing to do, and get Webmasters & users starting to disable weak 40 bit S

The fact is, some civilian targets have been mistakenly hit, which is unavoidable but unfortunate in a military operation

That is the exact wording that the IRA has used when they kill people.

The US might be using hi-tech smart bombs, instead of the low tech bombs the IRA used, but it doesn't make any difference to the civilians killed - they are equally dead.

    I agree totally.

We shouldn't deal with terroist nations such as the USA. Indiscriminate bombing, invading of neighbouring countries and refusal to honor UN resolutions should not be tollerated.

Why is the attitude around here seem to be that people who deliberatly look and act different are somehow automatically superior to those who don't?

Why do you think that those who are different have a choice? I didn't choose to myopic, asthmatic & intelligent - a geek, it's the way I was born. My enjoyment of reading, math and eventually computers came out of my nature, and I couldn't succeed at sports any more than Mike Tyson could succeed at quantum physics.

It's a simple fact that people are different. Always have been. Always will be. Perhaps we should work towards accepting these differences in schools instead of trying to eliminate them?
